It’s Time for Pokémon GO to Return

When we last collected our staff’s weekly updates , our editors were getting rid of our Facebook feeds, dabbling in clothing rentals, giving up bad books and spring cleaning up our financial lives.

This week we return to the Pokémon GO craze, improve our cloud storage, increase our retirement savings, and learn more about poetry.

What updates have you made this week? Let us know in the comments.

Revive your Pokémon GO habit

I started playing Pokemon GO again in order to have more physical activity. I was one of those people who downloaded it as soon as it came out and played hardcore for a month or two and then completely forgot about it for a long time. However, a lot has changed since its release, so it’s a little more fun now. It keeps me active and satisfies my desire to play games when I feel too busy to sit and walk for hours.

Find an easy way to immerse yourself in poetry

I loved the Poetry off the Shelf podcast of the American Poetry Foundation , and they are currently doing a series about how women made room for their voices in the 20th century poetry establishment. I know practically nothing about poetry, so this is the first time I know about people like Audre Lord. As soon as I run out of the final episodes, I plan to also check out their other V podcasts that are hosted by contemporary poets as they are “opposed to the ideas that drive them.”

Help someone with updating them

I improved my boyfriend by buying him swim shorts that fit mid-thigh length rather than side shorts that are too long and ugly.

Gradually increase your retirement savings

I am gradually increasing my 401 (k) contributions as high as possible. I think it’s best to invest as early as possible.

Take your cloud storage into your own hands

I’ve decided to move away from cloud-based backup services, which are getting expensive, and am trying to find an automated solution among the many hard drives I have, both internal and as part of my network storage device. And people ask me why I go out a little …

Pay for a literal upgrade

I racked my brains trying to figure out how to improve my life this week, and then I remembered that on Wednesday, when I returned late at night from the West Coast, I shelled out $ 80 on … an upgrade. I don’t usually do this sort of thing (and resent airlines and harass us to the point where you have to pay money to maintain even the slightest dignity). Anyway. My original seat was the middle seat all the way to my back, and when I saw the opportunity to pay for a window seat in the aisle with “extra legroom” I grabbed onto it. It made my flight infinitely more enjoyable and I have no regrets.

Get rid of guilt-inducing apps you no longer need

I removed the Moment app from my phone. It’s nice to see how much I use each app, but right now it doesn’t help me change my phone habits. Notifications have become more of a distraction than a time-saver. But actually turning off Twitter helps, so I still have my freedom!
