How to Reunite With Pets Lost in California Wildfires
Pets and livestock have been separated from their people by wildfires in California, and rescuers have taken as many animals as possible to safety. If you are looking for a lost pet, many of the rescuers have posted pictures of pets on the Internet.
Unclaimed pets are believed to belong to the county animal services department, so start in the county where the animal was last seen, such as Ventura County (which sheltered 288 animals from wildfires) or Los Angeles County (where over 800 animals have sheltered). …
- UC Davis Veterinary Hospital has an album of pets on Facebook with unknown owners .
- The animals from the Northern California campfire camp are at the rescued animals camp . If you recognize your pet, stop where it is listed. (The organization is inundated with phone calls.)
- California Wildfires Pets is a volunteer-run Facebook group where you can post pictures and information about “lost pets” and view albums of unidentified pets.
If you are not looking for a pet but would like to help, many pet support organizations accept donations in cash.
