Build Your Nachos on Doritos

This Sunday, Mr. Bündchen will continue his reign of terror, and all decent people will stop overeating (or distracted from food if you don’t care about football). Putting food in your mouth is the most effective way to do this, and there is nothing better than nacho. All nachos are good, but nachos built on the basis of doritos nachos are excellent.

To be honest, I’m surprised – and a little disappointed – that Taco Bell hasn’t done this in years. They already have Dorito tacos – why not add another item to their expansive menu by loading up a bunch of cheese-dusty Nachos BellGrande chips? It’s an easy way to add more flavor (and MSG ) to an already delicious meal. It makes sense. Even if Taco Bell doesn’t heed my advice, you can still.

Cook the nachos as usual, sprinkling them with melted cheese and some beans or meats, being careful to cover as much of each chip as possible. Excessively exposed shavings will burn, and while it is good to brown the Dorito ends in a landscape style, too much browning is not necessary. (On the protein side, take a dip. Dorito-based nacho is best paired with ground beef and cheap taco sauce, not real carnitas, but I believe you’ll make the right choice.) Place chips, cheese, and protein under the roasting pan until the cheese melts and begins to bubble and lightly brown. Remove from oven and place over the rest of your favorite topping. Doritos Nachos can be prepared with any Dorito flavor and you are free to experiment. Try Cool Ranch, Spicy Nacho, or a mix of several flavors in one batch, or make it really fun by adding some super-spicy Blaze chips (just be sure to warn people).
