How This Strange Toy Became the Best Tool for My Restless Child

When my son was 4, he, like most 4-year-olds, needed to move. Lot. Plus, he was one of those kids doing well where he could get extra sensory input even when he was idle.

When he was a toddler / preschooler, we had a slide and a mini trampoline in different places at home so that he could release a burst of energy, especially first thing in the morning.

When he got a little older (and we made a commitment to return the main living space), I bought him this Bilibo seat . I didn’t know anyone who would buy one; I stumbled upon this by accident while doing some kind of holiday shopping online. At $ 30, the price seemed a little overpriced for a toddler seat, but reviews promised me it would be perfect for him to fidget / sway / spin while watching the show.

But Bilibo did one thing better for me: it became one of the most durable and most used pieces of his early childhood.

At first he just loved to sit in it and sway (or make us twist it), but it soon became a staple in almost all of his plays. He had a turtle shell on his back, a giant pool for his plastic guys. It was a meteor, an alien and a hill that his dinosaurs could climb.

He and his friends used it in games or scripts that I never fully understood.

He also used it functionally. When he had a set of toys that he loved to play with and wanted to get together the next day, he threw them all at Bilibo in the evening. And it’s incredibly durable, so I would walk into the living room often and find it watching TV and strengthening its core and balance.

If you need a new item for your young child to tinker with and / or develop their creative play, Bilibo is a good addition.
