How to Create a Giant Coloring Book for Your Child
This summer I was looking for projects for kids that have some experience – things to work on over the course of a few days or weeks. I got into a business that is not difficult, requires few materials and makes me feel like a wizard: I blew up the coloring book.
Specifically, I uploaded the coloring file to Staples.com and scaled it up to an engineering print of 3 feet by 4 feet. These are large black and white prints commonly used for engineering or architectural plans. For about $ 7, we now have a mural on the wall that my 6 year old daughter can paint or someone else wants to take with crayons.
The coloring book I have chosen is designed by PicCandle on Etsy. I wanted a print with a lot of detail, but without the intricacy of Where’s Waldo . The kid started working on it last night, and then I jumped up too. The coloring is really relaxing.
Here’s what you need to do to make a great coloring yourself:
- Choose a high resolution coloring book. There are many free or low-cost PDFs to download on the Internet. If you have a very young child, you can choose a simple illustration, but for older children, with more patience, you can explore mandalas or other drawings from adult coloring books.
- Create your engineering print. Staples , FedEx and Parabo allow you to upload your designs to their print sites. You can resize the print yourself using the preview or the online image resizing tool, or use the printer’s “fit content to paper” option if available. It’s okay if there are gaps along the borders.
- Stick your massive coloring book to the wall, or place it on a table or floor, and then let your child do it. It’s a fun activity for dating and partying. After all, you have a giant piece of art.
