Apple Won’t Make Small Phones, so This Company Is Stepping In.

Large smartphones have long been the norm. It seems many, if not most, of us prefer our smartphones to feel like tiny tablets. Even Apple’s smallest iPhone isn’t all that small, with a 6.1-inch display. (Compare that to the 5.4-inch iPhone mini the company used to sell.) But just because many of us like it doesn’t mean everyone does.

Contrary to what companies like Apple would have you believe, there are plenty of people who want their smartphones to be smaller. For some, the iPhone mini was the perfect option, thanks to a design that most users could comfortably use with one hand. While sales may not have been strong enough for Apple to continue producing the mini line, I’ve heard from many people who would happily continue using such small iPhones if Apple produced more of them. Perhaps you know someone like that; maybe you’re one of them.

While rumors don’t indicate Apple plans to release a new iPhone mini, that doesn’t mean the dream of a tiny smartphone is dead. Introducing the “Enough Phone”—a new device with a modest goal: to create a “small, modern smartphone that’s enough.”

The phone’s specifications are enough

The Enough Phone truly feels small. The company states that its upcoming device measures 133 mm by 64 mm and is less than 12 mm thick. This equates to 5.24 inches by 2.52 inches and less than 0.47 inches thick. It’sstrikingly similar to the iPhone 13 mini , which measures 5.18 by 2.53 inches and is 0.3 inches thick. While the Enough Phone may be slightly larger overall and perhaps noticeably thicker, it still feels like a “miniature” size.

The Enough Phone’s 5.3-inch display, however, isn’t particularly modern. While we don’t know the display type, we do know that its resolution is 1520 x 720, which may seem less crisp to those upgrading from the iPhone 13 mini’s 2340 x 1080 resolution. I’d guess most people interested in a device like this wouldn’t need a super-sharp OLED display anyway, but it’s worth noting.

As for other specifications of the Enough Phone, the company plans to equip it with a MediaTek Dimensity 7500 processor running at 2.4 GHz, 8 GB of RAM, and 128 GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD card (a rarity in modern smartphones). Currently, the phone is planned to ship with a single 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 rear camera and a 32-megapixel front-facing camera, which would be one of the highest-resolution front-facing cameras ever seen on a smartphone. The phone supports 5G, Wi-Fi 6, and eSIM, as well as a physical SIM card slot.

Enough also aims to make its smartphone more repairable than its competitors. While smartphone manufacturers have improved repairability slightly in recent years, few phones are designed to be disassembled and replaced by the user. While the Enough Phone isn’t fully modular, it is designed with easy-to-remove screws and comes with a fully replaceable 3,500 mAh battery. Combined with promised software support until 2032, Enough claims this device “should last you well into the next decade.”

What do you think at the moment?

All of these specifications are preliminary, as the phone is currently in the prototype stage. Enough states that the final details may change “slightly” during testing. I at least hope the dimensions, especially the screen size, remain the same at launch. However, the ringtones will likely remain the same: Enough reports that they hired composer Brian Squillance of LAANDS to create jingles for their phone, which is a nice touch.

Enough Phone is not an iPhone.

Unfortunately for Apple fans, the Enough Phone isn’t an iPhone. However, it doesn’t have to be an Android phone. While you can get the phone with Android 17 preinstalled, you can also opt for OdysseyOS, a minimalist operating system from SLEKE, “without the Google embellishments.” Enough claims OdysseyOS is designed for a “focused phone experience,” which may appeal to those looking for a “simple” and compact phone.

Of course, neither of these operating systems is iOS. Unfortunately for Apple users, the only real iPhone options here are either continuing to use the older iPhone mini, which Apple still supports, or opting for the iPhone 17e, the smallest iPhone the company currently makes. It’s fairly easy to find a used or refurbished iPhone 13 mini at a reasonable price ; but while it may still run the latest version of iOS, you won’t be able to take advantage of all of Apple’s latest features. Furthermore, while it’s unknown how long Apple plans to support the 13 lineup, it won’t last forever—your phone may lose support entirely by iOS 28 or iOS 29.

You can support Enough Phone right now.

If the prospect of a modern, mini smartphone appeals to you, you can back the Enough Phone on Kickstarter today. While the $399 “Super Early Bird” reward is sold out at the time of writing, the “Early Bird” reward is still available. This reward costs $449 and includes a pre-installed screen protector, protective case, USB-C cable, USB-C to 3.5mm headphone adapter, Allen screwdriver, and green “Founders’ Edition” backplate screws. Enough states that the phone will retail for $599 after the campaign ends, so backing the project today can save you $150—if you’re seriously interested in compact phones. The Enough Phone is scheduled to launch in May 2027.
