A Strange Glitch May Have Already Been Discovered in the Switch 2 Game Ocarina of Time.

Thursday is a big day for Zelda fans. It marks the official release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake on Switch 2, the first major linear (i.e., non-open-world) 3D Zelda game since the 2016 Wii U remake of Twilight Princess . I, for one, have been waiting for this day for years. I loved the original N64 game and the 3DS remake, so the chance to play a modern version of the iconic Zelda is incredibly exciting—assuming, of course, it works as intended.
This bug in Ocarina of Time may temporarily affect game performance.
I came across an interesting post on X by Austin John Plays , a YouTuber who writes a lot about Zelda. According to Austin John Plays, Ocarina of Time already has a strange glitch that won’t necessarily ruin gameplay, but it can slow it down for a while and perhaps even confuse players, making them think there’s something wrong with their game or console.
As his post explains, if you’re playing a physical copy of Ocarina of Time , and it’s your first time playing on the Switch 2—maybe you have one of those fancy new consoles released for Zelda’s anniversary and want to give it a proper test drive?—you may encounter serious performance issues: the game may freeze, your controller may stop working, and your frame rate may drop to the single digits.
Luckily, as Austin John Place points out, the solution is simple: just wait. Eventually, your game will return to the title screen. When this happens, don’t try to play immediately. Instead, close the game, restart your Switch 2, and then try launching Ocarina of Time again. Austin John Place recommends repeating this process two or three times, but after that, the problems should disappear. I wouldn’t be surprised if Nintendo immediately releases a patch for this bug if it turns out to be as widespread as this post suggests.
You can prevent this bug in Zelda before Ocarina of Time comes out.
However, since the game isn’t released until tomorrow, there are some things you can do to prevent this. Austin John Place believes the bug only affects Switch 2 consoles that haven’t previously run other games. If you’ve had your console for a while, you’re likely fine. But if you just bought the Zelda Anniversary Edition for Switch 2 , you may not have had a chance to play the game yet. So, download the game from the eShop—even the free demo—just to get your system up and running. Hopefully, this will be enough to bypass the glitch and prevent any problems when Ocarina of Time launches tomorrow.
