The Top 10 TV Series Currently Available, According to Streaming Services.

In October, your future favorite shows made the top ten most popular series. Among the new releases are several modern horror franchises for Halloween ( Carrie and Crystal Lake ), as well as new horror series Below and Phony . There’s also the excellent new superhero series Lanterns , the sweeping family drama East of Eden , and new seasons of beloved series Ted Lasso, Slow Horses, The Diplomat, and Mobland . So don’t even try to tell anyone that nothing’s working.
Carrie
Horror master Mike Flanagan ( The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass ) reimagines Stephen King’s tale of teenage telekinesis, setting it from the 1970s to the present day, complete with cyberbullying, smartphones, and a modern worldview. However, the core of the story remains unchanged, as does the protagonist’s bloody coming-of-age. Featuring a talented young cast, including Sienna Agudong as Susan and Summer H. Howell as the titular heroine, Carrie is a true treat for horror fans. Watch Carrie on Prime .
East of Eden
Based on John Steinbeck’s classic Western, East of Eden follows three generations of the Hamilton family, living in humble circumstances, and the Trask family, farmers and ranchers in California’s Salinas Valley. The series also spans multiple generations: it was written and created by Zoe Kazan, whose grandfather, Elia Kazan, directed the 1955 film adaptation of East of Eden. With all due respect to Elia Kazan, Steinbeck’s story is so vast that it demands a seven-part miniseries. East of Eden is the kind of sprawling, melodramatic story episodic television is made for. Watch East of Eden on Netflix.
Crystal Lake
Like Carrie , Crystal Lake reimagines a horror classic—in this case, Friday the 13th—and expands its story beyond the franchise’s 12 films. If you’ve ever wondered how Pamela Voorhees, played by Linda Cardellini, became a serial killer, and how her son Jason became a ruthless, lake-dwelling, camp counselor-killing machine, Crystal Lake will give you all the answers. In many ways, it’s better than the movies. Watch Crystal Lake on Peacock.
Slow horses
Apple TV’s Slow Horses offers a realistic and nuanced look at espionage, detailing the lives of the misfits of British intelligence. Instead of perfectly formed men and women saving the world, the Slough House agents are a team of dysfunctional, troubled individuals trying to do the right thing (usually) in a morally ambiguous world, just like real agents. Their leader, the gruff and obnoxious Jackson Lamb, is brilliantly played by Gary Oldman. Slow Horses has a near-perfect rating on Rotten Tomatoes for its first five seasons, and season six is setting new records . Watch Slow Horses on Apple TV+ .
Lanterns
The new DC television series Green Lantern explores what happens when veteran Lantern Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) trains newcomer John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) in the use of the mysterious and powerful Green Lantern Ring. It’s a low-key, neo-noir take on the comic book mythology, with the heroes investigating a series of murders linked to an extraterrestrial threat. With a Rotten Tomatoes rating of over 90% , Green Lantern is definitely worth watching. Watch Green Lantern on HBO Max .
Below
Created by Jesse McKeon and starring Josh Hartnett, Charlie Heaton, and Mackenzie Davis, The Below follows a Newfoundland fishing village gripped by an aquatic horror. When the Canadian government offers the residents of Snooks Arm a huge sum of money to relocate, no one is quite sure why, but ice fisherman Calvin Penny (Hartnett) suspects it has something to do with a monster he saw under the ice as a child. If you enjoy tense, monster-movie-style horror, check out The Below . Watch The Below on Netflix .
Ted Lasso
In the fourth season of Ted Lasso, the title character, played by Jason Sudeikis, returns to the UK to take on a new challenge: coaching the Lady Greyhounds, a women’s football team from second-division AFC Richmond. This Emmy-winning series retains all the warmth, humor, and positivity of the original series. Watch Ted Lasso on Apple TV+ .
False
The mystery at the heart of the creepy teen drama “Phony” is nothing short of stunning: Sonny Cook, played by Sam Nivola, is a teenager who is incredibly close to his devoted single mother, Ellen, played by Connie Britton. After a horrific car accident, he wakes up convinced his mother is an impostor. She looks the same as before, but there’s something strange about her that Sonny can’t quite place, so he sets out to solve the mystery. “Phony” holds a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes . Watch “Phony” on Hulu.
Diplomat
In the fourth season of the political thriller “The Diplomat,” Kate Wyler, played by Keri Russell, discovers that diplomatic relations between the US and UK are crumbling, as is her marriage. Meanwhile, US President Grace Penn, played by Allison Janney, and Vice President Hal Wyler, played by Rufus Sewell, continue their plot to steal a Russian superweapon, pushing the country toward war with our long-time adversary. In other words, it’s international chaos, and only a few powerful people are keeping the world from descending into it. If you enjoy political intrigue, this series is for you. Watch “The Diplomat” on Netflix.
Moblend
Who doesn’t love a big crime drama? In Mobland, crime is organized in the UK, where two feuding London crime families, the Harrigans and the Stevensons, battle for power in the criminal underworld. At the center of the action is Harry Da Souza, a tough-guy fixer played with raspy skill by Tom Hardy. In season two, Da Souza finds himself in the unenviable position of keeping the Harrigan family from collapsing on the brink of civil war. If you enjoy betrayal, intrigue, murder, and other elements of action-packed crime thrillers, you’ll love Mobland . Watch Mobland on Paramount+ .
