This tri-band router distributes traffic across the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands, supporting new Wi-Fi 7 features, including multi-channel operation and 320 MHz channels. Furthermore, all five of its ports (one WAN port and four LAN ports) operate at 2.5 Gbps, meaning a desktop computer, gaming console, and NAS can simultaneously deliver multi-gigabit speeds. There’s also a USB 3.0 port for connecting an external drive, and management is via the TP-Link Tether app or web interface.
In terms of performance, it reportedly delivers excellent maximum speeds, and its range is well maintained in a multi-level home, so you should have enough bandwidth for heavy downloads, 4K streaming, and other bandwidth-intensive tasks running simultaneously in different parts of the house. EasyMesh support also means you can later connect it to another certified router or extender. However, while the BE550 has very good range for a standalone router, it’s not a mesh system, so speeds naturally decline the further you move or the more floors you move, and you may need a second EasyMesh unit. Furthermore, its WAN port has a maximum speed of 2.5 Gbps, so peak speeds are lower than routers like the eero Max 7, although this only becomes an issue if your internet plan is faster than 2.5 Gbps.
