The Top 10 Series Currently Available, According to Streaming Services.

Streaming services were incredibly diverse in September. According to JustWatch , the top 10 most popular TV shows of the month included series with very different approaches to international espionage: ” Lioness, ” with its all-or-nothing blockbuster atmosphere, and ” Slow Horse ,” with its darkly humorous and morally ambiguous style.
Other series hitting the charts include the spy thriller Reacher , a pair of sports comedies named after their leads ( Ted Lasso and Chad Powers ), a dystopian sci-fi drama ( Power ), a superhero series ( Lanterns ), and cop-versus-crime stories ( Fury and The Gentlemen ). There’s even a horror comedy ( Widow’s Bay ). There’s something for everyone, you could say.
Lanterns
This month, the DC television series Green Lantern topped the streaming charts. In it, veteran Lantern Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) trains rookie John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) in the mysterious and powerful Green Lantern Ring. It’s a low-key, neo-noir take on the comic book mythology, with the heroes investigating a series of murders linked to an extraterrestrial threat. With a 92% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Green Lantern is definitely worth watching. Watch Green Lantern on HBO Max .
Ted Lasso
In the fourth season of Ted Lasso, the title character, played by Jason Sudeikis, returns to the UK to take on a new challenge: coaching the Lady Greyhounds, a women’s football team from second-division AFC Richmond. This Emmy-winning series retains all the warmth, humor, and positivity of the original series. Watch Ted Lasso on Apple TV+.
Reacher
Actor Alan Ritchson, who plays Reacher , is a superb action star. He’s as big as a house, but he uses his wits as well as his fists, and his “independent tough guy” lifestyle makes the series incredibly entertaining. In season four, our morally uncompromising giant of a hero witnesses a supposed suicide, only to discover it’s connected to a conspiracy so vast it involves governments around the world. If you enjoy action-packed shows, you’ve probably already watched Reacher , but if not, you definitely should! Watch Reacher on Prime Video .
Lioness
If you enjoy action, international espionage, and incredible performances, Lioness combines all of these into a must-watch series. The cast boasts a strong cast, including Oscar winner Zoe Saldanha, Oscar winner Morgan Freeman, Emmy nominee Michael Kelly, and executive producer and Oscar winner Nicole Kidman. Season three plunges viewers into a secret network of dangerous foreign agents, personal betrayals, and a high-stakes war that could define everyone’s life. Watch Lioness on Paramount+ .
Slow horses
Apple TV’s Slow Horses offers a more realistic and nuanced look at espionage, detailing the lives of the misfits of British intelligence. Instead of perfectly formed men and women saving the world, the agents of Slough House are a team of dysfunctional, troubled individuals trying to do the right thing (usually) in a morally ambiguous world. Just like real agents. Their leader, the gruff and obnoxious Jackson Lamb, is brilliantly played by Gary Oldman. Slow Horses has a near-perfect rating on Rotten Tomatoes for its first five seasons, and season six is setting new records . Watch Slow Horses on Apple TV+ .
Furious
In “Fast and Furious,” Emmy Rossum plays Alice Black, an FBI agent and former NYPD homicide detective investigating a series of murders that point to a serial killer bent on taking down the wealthy scum who sexually exploited her. If that’s not a killer premise for a TV show, I don’t know what is. Critics agree: “Fast and Furious” has a 99% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes . Watch “Fast and Furious” on Hulu.
Gentlemen
Directed by Guy Ritchie, this series unfolds at the intersection of British aristocracy and gangsters and the dregs of society. Theo James plays Eddie Horniman, aka The Duke, whose inherited family estate is barely covered by drug profits. If you enjoy action-packed thrillers, British humor, and a stylish gangster atmosphere, this series is for you. Watch The Gentlemen on Netflix .
Widow’s Bay
This Apple TV series has received unanimous acclaim from critics and audiences alike. It’s a rare horror comedy that manages to be both genuinely scary and genuinely funny. In the island town of Widow’s Cove, everything seems cursed, possessed by an unspeakable evil, but Mayor Tom Loftis (Matthew Rhys) still wants to attract tourists, so he ignores the sea witches, mist monsters, and ghosts of serial killers surrounding him in an attempt to attract new customers. The magnificent Stephen Root plays Wick, an old man who constantly reminds everyone that time is short and everyone is doomed. Watch Widow’s Cove on Apple TV+ .
Chad Powers
“Chad Powers” is a genuinely funny sports comedy. Glen Powell plays Russ Holliday, a former college football phenom who self-destructed before reaching the NFL. Instead of giving up, he disguises himself, takes the name “Chad Powers,” and tries to make the failing university team. It works, but leads to incredible complications as he tries to cover up his deception. Watch “Chad Powers” on Hulu.
Silage
The Apple TV series “Power” continues to follow the downward spiral of extinction among humanity’s dregs, who live together underground in a massive cavernous structure that extends deep into the earth. If you’ve ever wondered how things got this way, this season takes you back in time to uncover the cause of humanity’s near-extinction. (Unsurprisingly, humans are to blame.) “Power” is available to watch on Apple TV .
