Gitryin has opened pre-orders for the Nexus , a 140W desktop charging station with four retractable USB-C cables built directly into the device. This allows you to charge multiple devices simultaneously without having a cluttered desk. A fifth USB-C port allows you to bring your own cable, and the kit also includes three adapters for devices with Lightning, Micro-USB, and USB-A ports, such as old headphones or an outdated e-reader. The entire kit is currently available for $89.99 as part of an early access promotion running until October 14, after which the price will increase to $109.99 on October 15. From now until November 30, you can use the code NexusPR10 to get $10 off orders of $100 or more, effectively bringing the price of the Nexus down to $99.99. Shipments are expected to begin on November 15.
Despite the convenience of five charging ports, the Nexus’s 140W power is distributed evenly—one compatible device can draw up to 140W, and connecting two devices splits the available power up to 65W between each. Connecting three devices results in a distribution of 100W, 18W, and 18W, with all five ports charging up to 65W from the main port and 18W from each of the other four. Gitryin’s testing at full 140W showed that a 16-inch MacBook Pro charged to 50% in 25 minutes and was fully charged in 1 hour 31 minutes, though actual speed will vary depending on your device, battery level, and charging conditions.
The combination of laptop-like power and support for multiple, more compact devices makes the Nexus particularly suitable for placing on a desk or nightstand, where charging takes place in one place. Retractable cables help eliminate clutter—each extends up to 79 cm and locks into place at multiple levels—while a weighted 760-gram base and anti-slip strips help keep the station in place while you’re pulling out the cable. The tradeoff is portability: at approximately 10 cm x 9.8 cm and weighing almost 900 grams, it’s much better suited to a desk or nightstand than for travel.
