Amazon Prime Members Will Be Able to Receive Two Free E-Books in September.

Throughout 2026, you can get thousands of free ebooks if you know where and when to look. Amazon offers readers free Kindle ebooks year-round, with new opportunities added every month. In September, Prime members can get two free Kindle ebooks as part of the Amazon First Reads program.

What is the Amazon First Reads program?

Amazon First Reads is a program for Prime subscribers that provides early access to new ebooks across a variety of genres, selected by First Reads editors (one of the many benefits of Prime membership ). Prime subscribers can download one ebook from a rotating selection each month for free—though some months this number increases to two, usually a free short novel—while non-subscribers receive them at a reduced price. These ebooks can be read on any compatible Kindle device or through the free Kindle app.

How to Get Free Amazon Kindle Ebooks in September

Visit the First Reads homepage to see the full list of ebooks available this month. Once you find a book you like, click the “Buy Now” button on the First Reads homepage. Make sure you’re not redirected to the Kindle or Amazon mobile app, as you won’t see the free book option there; instead, use the web browser on your phone or computer.

Make sure you don’t click the “Pre-Order for…” button, as this will redirect you to the payment page. Instead, click the “Read for Free” or “Buy Now in 1-Click” button under the “First Reads” banner on the book’s Amazon page (don’t worry, you won’t be charged anything). This will send the ebook directly to the Kindle linked to your Amazon account. You can see what this looks like in the screenshot below.

You’ll know you’ve done everything right when you see the message “Thank you, [your name]!” in your order summary, indicating that your ebook is being automatically delivered to your Kindle Cloud Reader app.

What do you think at the moment?

Free Amazon Kindle e-books will be available in September 2026.

This month, you can choose from eight new Kindle ebooks, as well as one of the Short Books of the Month . Amazon lists the genre of each book above the title, making it easy to narrow down your options. (If you hover over “See Editor’s Notes” below the “Buy Now” button, you can read a short description from the First Reads editor who selected the book.)

Here are your options for September 2026. You can get one of these eight ebooks, plus this month’s short story, “The Back Bedroom: A True Story of Exorcism and Murder” :
