How to Finally Sync Your Fitbit Data With Apple Health

While Fitbit fitness trackers are popular —they’re thin, discreet, and inexpensive—their Google Health app has always had issues . However, things seem to be improving. The Google Health app has finally received an update that allows data to be sent to Apple Health.
The Google Health app (formerly known as Fitbit) has always been able to directly receive activity, sleep, and wellness data from devices like Fitbit fitness trackers. However, Fitbit devices historically lacked built-in direct syncing with Apple Health. To get around this limitation, those who wanted data to flow in both directions had to use third-party tools or manual workarounds. The latest Google Health update finally allows metrics like steps, distance traveled, heart rate, and sleep data to be transferred to the Apple Health platform. This means the metrics on your phone will more seamlessly reflect the data tracked by your Fitbit.
How to set up Fitbit and Apple Health syncing
To sync your Fitbit data with Apple Health, you’ll first need to update the Google Health app. Open the Apple App Store, go to the updates list, and select “Update” next to the app. After downloading the latest version, open the Google Health app, tap “Connections” in the upper left corner, select “Apps & Services,” and then add Apple Health. If you don’t see the sync option immediately, try closing and updating the app.
Not all of your data will be transferred.
Unfortunately, at the time of writing, the update isn’t perfect: some Reddit users have noted that certain metrics, such as heart rate variability, aren’t included in the transfer—or at least not yet. Time will tell if the next update will address these missing metrics. If the lack of heart rate variability stats is critical for you, consider the Bevel app for iPhone, which could be a good replacement for the Google Health app.
