You Can Now Change the Music in Old Instagram Posts.

For those who frequently post on Instagram, it might seem like the app has always allowed you to add music to your posts. But in fact, the company only introduced this feature in 2022. (If that seems wrong, you’re mistaken— you’ve been able to add music to Stories since 2018. ) Over the past four years, the ability to add music to photos has become more common, setting the right mood for your post. It’s become something of an Instagram standard: if you use the app with sound on, you can’t scroll through your friends’ posts without hearing a blaring stream of songs.
However, all this time, adding a song was either all or nothing. If you published a post with a certain tune, it became the permanent soundtrack to your post. Any regrets about that song could only be remedied by deleting the post entirely—in most cases, a rather drastic step. So, your feed might contain posts with tracks you no longer liked, but since you didn’t want to delete the photos completely, you had to keep them and reconcile your past poor decisions. But now everything has changed!
Now you can change the music in any of your Instagram posts.
On Tuesday , Instagram announced that songs in posts and carousels can now be edited . You can replace the music using Instagram’s new “Replace Audio” feature, which allows you to change the music in a post without deleting it or affecting likes or comments. It’s a simple change, but it’s likely to be well-received by Instagram users, and the company certainly needs that positivity after a wave of outrage over another high-profile feature , which briefly allowed users to create AI-powered images for posts from any public account. The company has since removed that option and appears to be focusing on adding new features that users might actually want.
Changing the music in your posts is pretty simple: whenever you want to change the song in one of your old posts, you can tap the two bars above the image, select “Edit,” and then select the new “Original Audio” option that appears in the menu. From here, you can replace the song with any from Instagram’s library and, presumably, return here as often as you like to change it again.
