10 TV Shows Like ‘Off Campus’ You Should Watch Next

If television can teach us anything, it’s that sex and hockey are a winning combination. First, in the gripping drama Heated Rivalry , and most recently in the acclaimed series Off Campus , an adaptation of Elle Kennedy’s sports novels. In the latter, Ella Bright plays Hannah Wells, a music student who accidentally meets future Boston Bruins player Garrett Graham (Belmont Cameli) when she catches him naked in the gym showers. He needs a tutor, she needs to make the guy she’s in love with jealous… you get the idea. Off Campus is available on Prime Video , and after watching, you can enjoy other stories of young, passionate, and sometimes athletic love.

Sex Lives of College Girls (2021–2025)

Kimberly (Pauline Chalamet) is a hopelessly naive college student who has won a scholarship; Bela (Amrit Kaur) is an aspiring comedy writer who strives to attract the attention of the hottest guys; Whitney (Alia Chanel Scott) is an ambitious athlete and the daughter of a senator; and Layton (Renee Rapp) is a closeted sorority girl. They are all randomly assigned to the same room at the fictional Essex College in Vermont for their freshman year. Created by Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble, this comedy-drama isn’t as explicit as its title suggests. There’s sex, sure, but like Sex and the City before it, it’s a funny, LGBTQ-friendly show that’s less about a single romantic lead than it is about growing up and the value of female friendship. Maxton Hall (2024 – )

Slightly more sentimental than the more lighthearted Off Campus , this series is nonetheless incredibly engaging, and the German import has become the most successful non-American series launch on Prime Video. Damian Hardung plays James Beaufort, the wealthy heir to a family fashion line, a sports star, and an impressively muscular hunk. Harriet Herbig-Matten plays Ruby Bell, a scholarship student at the elite Maxton Hall dorm who doesn’t mind staying under the radar—rich snobs don’t interest her, and she’s more interested in maintaining her high grades. Ruby accidentally discovers a secret involving James’s sister, which doesn’t bother her either , except that James annoys her by trying to buy her silence. The situation escalates until they are forced to work together, and if you don’t understand where this is going, you’re watching the wrong genre. Watch Maxton Hall on Prime Video .

Heartbreak High (2022–2026)

There’s a lot of backstory you don’t really need to know to enjoy the show, but in short, “Heartbreak High” is a soft reboot of sorts of the popular, long-running Australian series from the 1990s, which in turn was a spinoff of the 1993 film. It’s a successful blend of teen drama (tackling issues of gender identity, race, and teenage sexuality) and comedy (the main characters find themselves in the middle of “Sexual Literacy Training,” with the unfortunate acronym SLT). It all begins with Amelie and Harper, two students at a multicultural Sydney high school, who cause quite a scandal by creating a detailed map of the students’ sexual exploits.Watch “Heartbreak High” on Netflix .

Nevertheless (2021)

At the center of this gripping, if slightly confusing, South Korean miniseries is a complex and tangled relationship. Art student Na-bi (Han So-hee) has survived a relationship bordering on abuse and no longer believes in love, which, of course, doesn’t mean she’s completely lost interest in sex. As luck would have it, she meets flirtatious classmate Jae-yong (Song Kang), who’s also uninterested in a long-term relationship—at least at first. Thanks to the impressive chemistry between the leads and a strong supporting cast with their own issues, the series convincingly depicts a modern relationship that gradually blossoms into romance, despite the protagonists’ good intentions.Watch ” Nevertheless ” on Netflix.

Overcompensation (2025 – )

Comedian Benito Skinner plays himself, sort of, in this acclaimed comedy about a former high school athlete who begins his freshman year of college desperately trying to convince himself and everyone else that he’s completely straight (understandable, if not for the jock part). Much of the film’s appeal lies in its deft blend of tones: it’s simultaneously an often-frank college comedy and a sweet coming-of-age story about accepting yourself without worrying about what others think. It stars Adam DiMarco ( White Lotus ) and Rish Shah ( Ms. Marvel ), and there’s a romantic element, though the focus is more on what not to do in young love. Watch Overcompensation on Prime Video .

Normal People (2020)

More serious than Off Campus but no less romantic, this film, based on Sally Rooney’s bestselling novel, tells the passionate coming-of-age story of Marianne (Daisy Edgar Jones) and Connell (Paul Mescal), two characters (and actors) with impressive chemistry. She is rich but lonely, he is popular but the son of a housekeeper. Over time, their roles reverse, and life and love become increasingly complicated. The plot isn’t groundbreaking, but it has unusual depth and a frankness about sex and sexual violence that sets it apart. Watch Normal People on Hulu .

Borders (2024–2026)

While not a strictly romantic drama (though there are a few romantic moments), this British film takes place in a high school setting and features a talented cast of young rising stars (including leads Josh Tedeka and Jodie Campbell). At the (fictional) prestigious boarding school St. Gilbert’s, five black teenagers are accepted on scholarships, but their integration into the existing cliques doesn’t go entirely smoothly—especially considering they’re there primarily as a PR stunt for the school. Boarding School combines teen romance, coming-of-age drama, and a delightful willingness to poke fun at the whole “rich private school” thing. Watch Boarding School on Tubi .

The Summer I Became Beautiful (2022–2025)

Based on Jenny Han’s trilogy, this series follows the coming-of-age of 16-year-old Belly Conklin (Lola Tung). Belly and her family spend every summer at Cousins Beach with the Fisher family. This tradition is a happy one until she develops a romantic attraction, first to one Fisher brother (Christopher Briney), then to the other (Gavin Casalegno). This sets the stage for a love triangle that unfolds over several summers, resulting in Belly growing up to a soundtrack composed largely of Taylor Swift songs. The three-season series has concluded, but a feature-length sequel is in the works. Watch “The Summer I Turned Beautiful” on Prime Video.

Intense Rivalry (2025 – )

Of course, I have to mention one more passionate hockey romance. Shane Hollander (Hudson Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (Connor Storrie) are professional hockey players playing for fictional rival teams: the Montreal Metros and the Boston Raiders. Although their public relationship remains strained for years, they develop (at least initially) a casual sexual relationship that grows increasingly passionate, despite the hockey. The book series on which Off Campus is based has been around for quite some time, but Heated Rivalry sparked a wave of interest in sports romances (because, judging by the show’s success, “people like hockey”), so it’s easy to draw the line. (If you’re looking to narrow your recommendations to TV shows like “Heated Rivalry,” we have that list, too —along with books, movies, and video games worth checking out next .) Forever (2025 – )

Who better to tackle teen drama than Judy Blume? This adaptation of her censored 1975 novel sets the action in contemporary Los Angeles and expands its exploration of the complexities of teenage love and sex to include the struggles of being young, exceptional, and Black in 2020s America. Keisha Clarke (Lovie Simone) attends a majority-Black private school and aspires to earn an athletic scholarship to Howard University, while Justin Edwards (Michael Cooper Jr.) is a white student and follows in his parents’ footsteps, aiming to attend Northeastern University, ideally on a basketball scholarship. The clever series explores their budding romance in a way that feels realistic and gripping.Watch Forever on Netflix.
