This year hasn’t been a triumph for cheap storage devices . Demand from AI-focused data centers has driven up prices for consumer storage devices, so even the best Prime Day deals don’t always match the lows of previous years. However, anyone who needs more storage now can save on portable drives, fast internal SSDs, large hard drives, and network-attached storage systems before the sale ends today. Here are the deals worth considering:
Samsung T9 Portable SSD, 1TB : At $179.99 (down from $287.99), the Samsung T9 is a great choice for those who regularly move large photo, video, or game files between devices. It’s compact enough to fit in a laptop bag and fast enough to work directly from the drive.
Samsung 9100 Pro, 2 TB : The Samsung 9100 Pro has been reduced from $679.99 to $349.99, but this upgrade isn’t for everyone. Designed for modern high-performance computers, this PCI Express 5.0 drive is designed for demanding gaming, video editing, and other data-intensive tasks. Crucial P510, 1TB : Priced at $162.97 (down from $224.50), the Crucial P510 is a more affordable way to add PCI Express 5.0 storage to a compatible PC. While it’s still unnecessary for basic web browsing and office work, it can improve load times and data transfers in modern gaming or video editing systems.
SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD, 2TB : $232.99 (down from $261.84) isn’t the biggest discount, but it gives you 2TB of portable SSD storage without having to upgrade to a bulky desktop hard drive. It’s a practical choice for photographers, frequent travelers, or anyone who’s constantly running low on laptop space.
SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD, 8TB : This older SanDisk Extreme model, priced at $709.99 (down from $839.99), offers an unusually large 8TB of storage in a portable format. This capacity comes at a premium, making it best suited for those with large video libraries or project archives that would otherwise require multiple smaller drives.
WD Elements 5TB Portable Hard Drive : At $196.99 (down from $274.99), the WD Elements offers significantly more space for the price than a portable SSD. The tradeoff is speed: it’s better suited for file backup and archiving than editing video directly from the drive.
WD My Passport Portable SSD, 1 TB : Priced at $184.99 for Prime members (previously $312.99), the WD My Passport SSD fills the gap between basic backup drives and faster premium models. It’s compact, offers password protection and hardware encryption, and is a smart option for storing work files or personal documents you don’t want to leave unprotected.
