While most headlines focus on the brand’s sleek, retro-futuristic design, there’s more to these headphones than just aesthetics. The more affordable Headphone (a) model features active noise cancellation of up to 40 dB, a 40 mm titanium-coated diaphragm, LDAC high-resolution audio support, spatial sound with head tracking, and the increasingly rare option of listening via Bluetooth, USB-C, or a traditional 3.5 mm cable. The more premium Headphone (1) model features 40 mm dynamic drivers and adaptive active noise cancellation.

Comfort received mixed reviews; some reviewers found the Nothing (a) earpads a bit shallow for larger ears compared to the more luxuriously padded Headphone (1). Reviewers also praised the physical controls, which use tactile buttons instead of fiddly touchpads, as well as the volume control and paddle switch for track selection. The headphones support multipoint connectivity, adaptive active noise cancellation, transparency mode, and are IP52-rated for dust and light rain protection.

Battery life is another standout; the headphones last up to 135 hours with ANC off and 80 hours with ANC on, which is impressive compared to many premium competitors. Surprisingly, despite being widely positioned as a more premium model, the Nothing (1) has a significantly shorter battery life: up to 80 hours with ANC off and 35 hours with ANC on. A quick five-minute charge on the Nothing (a) provides up to eight hours of listening time, and a full charge takes two hours. The Headphone (1) provides up to five hours of playback after a five-minute charge.

What do you think at the moment?

The Nothing (1) headphones also feature an advanced 8-band equalizer and six microphones for calls, compared to the Nothing (a), which features an adjustable equalizer accessible through the Nothing X app and five microphones. Ultimately, the Nothing (1) headphones deliver higher-quality sound and a more premium, comfortable design, while the Nothing (a) headphones offer exceptional battery life at a much lower price. With the current record-low discount, both models are compelling options for those looking for premium features and an attractive design at a lower price.
