10 TV Shows Like Dutton Ranch You Should Watch Next

If you thought the Yellowstone finale would be the Dutton family’s last appearance on television, you haven’t been following the countless spin-offs, prequels, and spin-off series that have transformed Taylor Sheridan’s neo-Western soap opera into one of television’s most expansive universes.
In addition to several directly related series, there are several others set in the same shared universe, the latest of which is Dutton Ranch , a direct sequel to the original series. Kelly Reilly, reprising her role (and replacing Kevin Costner as the franchise’s leading man), plays Beth Dutton: a fratricide financier, manipulator, and matriarch who begins a new life on a ranch in South Texas. And , girl, you know there’s going to be a lot of drama. In that spirit, here are 10 more Westerns (both original and neo-Western) in which women run the ranch.
Godless (2017)
This underrated Western from the Netflix archive comes from writer-director Scott Frank, known for The Queen’s Gambit and Department Q. Michelle Dockery ( Downton Abbey ) plays Alice Fletcher, a woman who runs a small ranch alone. She’s a widow, but she’s not alone—a mining accident has killed almost every man in the small town of La Belle, New Mexico. Hell awaits them in the form of Frank Griffin (Jeff Daniels), a brutal gang leader on the run from justice and leaving a trail of corpses leading directly to Alice’s home. The series made many best-of lists the year it premiered, but ended after one season, making it worth checking out if you missed it.Watch Godless on Netflix.
Territory (2024)
The spirit of the American West lives on in Australia’s Northern Territory, where the Lawson family has run the world’s largest cattle station (apparently the size of Belgium) for generations. With echoes of The Descendants , this beautifully crafted series unfolds as the twisted struggle for survival of a family dynasty: stoic patriarch Colin (Robert Taylor) has handed the family business over to his youngest son, Dan, who… gets eaten by dingoes in the first episode (I kid you not). Eldest, neglected son Graham (Michael Dorman) is suddenly thrust into the spotlight, while other families, outlaws, and Aboriginal chiefs vie for land. At the center of these intertwining storms is Graham’s wife, Emily (Anna Torv), the daughter of a rival clan and one of the main reasons Graham never got a chance to win the ultimate prize.Watch The Territory on Netflix.
“Madison” (2026 – )
A testament to the power of its creator and the inspired casting of Michelle Pfeiffer, Madison was renewed for a second and third season even before its premiere. Pfeiffer plays Stacey Clyburn, the matriarch of a wealthy New York family who, after a tragedy, decides to return to normal life to reconnect with her lost family by visiting her late husband’s secluded Montana estate and seeking a respite from the horrific image of New York City portrayed in the series. Along the way, she learns lessons about love, grief, and the outdoors. Watch Madison on Paramount+ .
Abandoned Places (2025)
In the best tradition of Johnny Guitar (which pitted Wild West tycoon and bartender Joan Crawford against vengeful rancher Mercedes McCambridge), Abandoned pits two indefatigable women against each other in 1850s Washington. Lena Headey plays Fiona Nolan, a devout single mother raising four orphans and struggling to survive. Compounding matters is greedy silver mine owner Constance Van Ness (Gillian Anderson), who wants Fiona’s farm and isn’t taking no for an answer. The Western aesthetic is nothing new, but who cares? Watching Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson square off is more than enough reason to watch.Watch Abandoned on Netflix.
1883 (2021–2022)
The Yellowstone universe continues to expand, its timeline so complex it rivals that of Star Wars . The first of the spinoffs, 1883 , also takes place at the very beginning of the timeline, giving us a glimpse of the Dutton family’s backstory. Tim McGraw and Faith Hill play the first generation of the family, who journey from Texas to Montana on a dangerous wagon train led by Sam Elliott. Seventeen-year-old Elsa Dutton, played by Isabel May, is at the center of the story, beginning as an adventurous young woman before becoming hardened by her experiences. Situated at the opposite end of the timeline, the series effectively frames Dutton Ranch . Watch 1883 on Paramount+.
English (2022)
It’s the twilight of the American Wild West (circa 1890), and Lady Cornelia Locke (Emily Blunt) has left England plotting revenge: she’s come to kill the man responsible for her son’s death. In Kansas, she meets Mr. Watts (eerily convincingly played by Ciarán Hinds), who’s tasked with stopping her, but who’s also torturing Eli Whipp, a Pawnee and former U.S. Army scout. Eli is traveling to Nebraska to claim the land owed to him for his service, despite knowing white men are unlikely to honor his debt. Teaming up, Lady Cornelia and Eli elope and set out on a journey together, their destinies becoming increasingly intertwined as they forge an unbreakable bond during their journey. Watch The Englishmen on Prime Video.
Heartland (2007–)
Based on the popular book series by Linda Chapman and Beth Chambers (writing under the pen name Lauren Brooke), the series follows a family of horse ranchers in western Canada, led by sisters Amy and Lou (Amber Marshall and Michelle Morgan). It’s more of a family drama than Dutton , with a more home-like setting, but it captures the atmosphere of the Wild West very well—even if it’s set in western Alberta. If you haven’t yet seen the series, you’ll have a lot of catching up to do: its 20th season is coming soon. Watch Heartland on Netflix .
Ransom Canyon (2025 – )
Another neo-Western that focuses more on personal drama, “Ransom Canyon” places us at the center of a land dispute involving several intersecting family dynasties. Widower Staten Kirkland (Josh Duhamel) struggles to preserve the family land while simultaneously seeking revenge on the man he blames for his son’s death. Enter Quinn O’Grady (Minka Kelly): a family friend, dance hall owner, concert pianist—and perhaps the only person who can help Staten pull himself together.Watch “Ransom Canyon” on Netflix.
Dark Winds (2022–)
Based on Tony Hillerman’s book series, Dark Winds is set in the 1970s and the Four Corners region of the American Southwest (where the borders of Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona meet). Jessica Matten, Zahn McClarnon, and Kiowa Gordon lead a cast of mostly Native Americans as three Navajo police officers who are drawn together by a bank robbery on the border of the Navajo reservation, which is intertwined with the deaths of two Native Americans. Blending elements of a suspenseful crime series and a police procedural, the series excels in its exploration of the complex history and relationships between these neighboring, closely knit communities.Watch Dark Winds on Netflix .
1923 (2022 – 2025)
Finally, a return to the 1920s Dutton family, this time starring Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford—the two legends certainly represent a major casting coup (especially with the addition of Timothy Dalton as the villain). Set between the Yellowstone / Dutton Ranch era and the more Western-inspired 1883 , this transitional film finds the Duttons confronting Prohibition while the Great Depression looms in the background. Mirren plays the strong-willed matriarch, Cara Dutton, and Isabel May returns from 1883 to voice the series as Elsa Dutton. Watch 1923 on Paramount+ .
