15 TV Shows Like ‘Nobody Wants This’ You Should Watch Next

Thanks to the great chemistry between the leads, a sense of humor, and engaging reflections on the challenges of interfaith relationships, Nobody Wants This has become a hit inthe Netflix romantic comedy genre, with a third season coming this year. The world may be a cesspool, but we still love love—at least on television, not just on the Hallmark Channel. With that in mind, here are 15 more shows that focus on romance (exclusively) and comedy (mostly), full of will-they-or-won’t-they intrigue and incredibly compelling characters.

Fleabag (2016–2019)

In this critically acclaimed series, Phoebe Waller-Bridge plays the title character (always credited simply as “Fleabag”) in a comedy-drama about a free-spirited, deeply embittered young woman living in London who shares her romantic ups and downs in confessional digressions with viewers. She reluctantly falls in love with “The Priest” (Andrew Scott)—she’s a staunch atheist and he’s clearly not, so it’s a bit like “Nobody Wants This,” but more twisted. Waller-Bridge has won Emmy Awards as the show’s star, creator, and writer. Watch “Fleabag” on Prime Video.

Crash Landing on You (2019)

The series’ title isn’t just a metaphor: the plot centers on a real-life crash landing in the north of Korea’s demilitarized zone. Yoon Se-ri (Son Ye-jin) is an heiress and independent businesswoman whose complicated relationship with her family has driven her into estrangement. While paragliding, a tornado carries her north and she is rescued from disaster by a North Korean special forces captain. The romantic relationship between the two characters, as well as its sensitive and humane portrayal of life in the North, made the series a megahit on South Korean television and a favorite with viewers worldwide.Watch Crash Landing on You on Netflix.

Disaster (2015–2019)

This family sitcom, which feels far more believable than most, follows Irish primary school teacher Sharon (Sharon Horgan) as she begins a week-long affair with American advertising executive Rob (Rob Delaney) and discovers she’s pregnant upon his return. They don’t have any real feelings for each other, but they decide to give it a try and end up getting married shortly before the baby’s birth. The show is full of jokes and snarky dialogue, but it’s not Married… with Children . Sharon and Rob can be a bit rough around the edges with each other and their sleazy group of friends, but there’s something endearing about how having someone to be naughty with can be one of life’s greatest joys. Younger (2015–2021)

Younger follows Lisa Miller (Sutton Foster), a recently divorced woman in her forties who finds her age a barrier to reentering the publishing industry she left years ago. After a compliment convinces her she could pass for younger (poor thing), she manages to convince the right people she’s only 26 in order to land an entry-level job. The seven seasons are full of adventures, but much of the series focuses on the complicated relationship between Lisa and Josh (Nico Tortorella), a tattoo artist in his twenties.Watch Younger on Netflix .

Normal People (2020)

Okay, so the comedy isn’t all that great. Based on Sally Rooney’s witty, bestselling novel, this film follows the passionate coming-of-age story of Marianne (Daisy Edgar Jones) and Connell (Paul Mescal), characters and actors with impressive chemistry. She’s rich but lonely, he’s popular but the housekeeper’s son. Over time, their roles shift, and life and love become increasingly complicated. The plot isn’t groundbreaking, but it possesses extraordinary intelligence and a frankness about sex and sexual violence that sets it apart. Watch Normal People on Hulu.

It’s Okay If You’re Not Okay (2020)

Discussions around mental health remain tense virtually everywhere, and South Korea is no exception. While treatment options are better here than in many other places, social stigma remains a problem. This is partly why Cho Yeon and Park Shin-woo’s miniseries made such a splash when it premiered last year: screenwriter Cho based the series on her own life and did a fair amount of research. The series follows the slowly developing romance between Moon Gun-tae (Kim Soo-hyun), a medical professional living with his autistic brother, and a renowned children’s author (Seo Ye-ji) with antisocial personality disorder. It’s sweet, often quite funny, and was so popular in South Korea that it inspired a series of children’s books based on the fictional author’s work.Watch It’s Okay to Not Be Okay on Netflix .

Lovers (2023)

Janet (Roisin Gallagher) is a deeply cynical, foul-mouthed supermarket employee. Seamus O’Hannigan (Johnny Flynn) is a little-known but incredibly egocentric TV presenter with a sweet girlfriend. Given the title of this British comedy, it’s no surprise that this unlikely couple falls in love almost immediately, with Janet’s aloofness proving to be a significant bruise, which seems to be to his advantage. Their relationship is complicated, but their chemistry is palpable. Watch “The Lovers” on Prime Video.

Sex Education (2019–2023)

There’s a fair amount of sex on television (carried over from the now largely sex-free movies), but that’s not the same as sex-positive. In this British comedy-drama, Asa Butterfield and Gillian Anderson play an insecure, shy teenager named Otis and his mother, Jean, a frank and sometimes painfully honest sex therapist. When a school bully needs sex advice, Otis shares the wisdom he gleaned from his mom, eventually making a name for himself at school by selling his knowledge as an expert. It’s a funny and charmingly frank show that approaches sex with humor and positivity, and it features a wonderful couple whose fate is unclear: the awkward Otis or the more fearless Maeve (Emma Mackey).Watch Sex Education on Netflix.

You’ve probably heard of this show before: Shane Hollander (Hudson Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (Connor Storrie) are professional hockey players playing for rival teams, the Montreal Metros and the Boston Raiders. Although their public relationship remains strained for years, they develop (at least initially) a casual sexual relationship that grows increasingly passionate despite the ice. A Better Place (2016–2020)

It’s not a romantic comedy, at least not primarily, but there’s a strong romantic undercurrent between the protagonists, Eleanor Shellstrop (Kristin Bell) and Chidi Anagonye (William Jackson Harper), who are both… dead. Set in an idyllic afterlife ruled by the immortal Michael (Ted Danson), the series sees Eleanor and Chidi as soulmates—except that the rude, boorish, and selfish Eleanor is mistaken for someone else and sent to the wrong place with the wrong soulmate. To avoid disaster, they must pretend to love each other until their love begins to blossom into something more real. Watch The Good Place on Peacock , Prime Video , and Hulu .

She doesn’t speak the language or understand the culture, but gradually manages to win over the locals while balancing work and a romance with Gabriel, played by Lucas Bravo. Modern Love (2019–2021)

This series is primarily set in New York City. It’s a true anthology with romantic comedy elements, with episodes exploring dating apps, mental illness, older couples, and more, each telling a story inspired by a New York Times column of the same name. Tina Fey, Julia Garner, Andrew Scott, Sophie Okonedo, Anne Hathaway, Dev Patel, and Cristin Milioti are just a few of the actors appearing in the two seasons of the series. Heartstopper (2022 – )

Repressed feelings are fine, of course, but “Heartstopper” is an inspiring coming-of-age story about queer teenage love, which we all desperately need right now. While the show never glosses over the dangers of homophobia, it also doesn’t wallow in tragedy. Kit Connor and Joe Locke deliver sensitive (and often very funny) performances in a show that’s almost always full of smiles without feeling saccharine.Watch “Heartstopper” on Netflix .

With Love (2021–2023)

Last but not least, Gloria Calderon Kellett ( One Day at a Time ) created this series, which follows four couples simultaneously, making it a great and effective way to utilize screen time in the romantic comedy genre. The series centers on the large, close-knit Diaz family, led by Lily (Emeraude Toubia) and her brother Jorge (Mark Indelicato), who each face romantic vicissitudes throughout a year in each of the show’s two seasons, with each episode centered on a holiday beginning with an action-packed Nochebuena. Some storylines are more touching than others, but this sweet and funny series succeeds far more than it fails. Watch With Love on Prime Video.
