10 TV Shows Like “Your Friends and Neighbors” That You Should Watch Soon.

In the Apple TV series Your Friends & Neighbors , Jon Hamm plays Andrew “Coop” Cooper, a recently divorced New York City hedge fund manager who is recently unemployed. Trying to create the illusion that nothing has changed in his life, he begins breaking into the homes of his wealthy neighbors to steal and sell their belongings, unwittingly revealing their secrets. (The friends and neighbors mentioned in the title include Amanda Peet, Olivia Munn, Mark Tallman, Hoon Lee, Lena Hall, and Aimee Carrero.)
This dark comedy isn’t exactly about the hardships of being a formerly rich white guy from the suburbs, but it’s also not a cautionary tale about the decline of toxic masculinity. A former insider turned closet outsider, Coop is perfectly suited to provide caustic commentary on the goings-on without becoming a caricature. Season two premieres in April, but until then (and in between), check out these 10 other shows about weird shit happening in your neighborhood while you’re stuck at home watching TV. Watch Friends & Neighbors on Apple TV .
Weeds (2005–2012)
Weeds is a classic suburban crime drama, and its influence is clearly evident in Your Friends and Neighbors and many other shows inspired by it. Mary-Louise Parker plays Nancy Botwin, a recently widowed mother desperately trying to maintain the upper-middle-class lifestyle her husband once provided. She can’t bear the thought of giving up the conspicuous consumption she’s become accustomed to, so she decides to get rich. And what better way, especially in the Los Angeles suburbs, than selling marijuana (obviously, the series was filmed and set before the recreational legalization of the drug in 2016)? Like Jon Hamm’s Coop, Nancy simply isn’t ready for her family to give up the good stuff. Buy Weeds on Prime Video.
Bad Sisters (2022–2024)
The perfectly crafted, dark comedy Bad Sisters , an Irish series, earned several well-deserved Emmy nominations in its first year. Writer and co-creator Sharon Horgan stars as Eva Garvey, the eldest of five sisters, including Grace (Anne-Marie Duff), married to John Paul, an abusive and withdrawn husband. When he is found dead under suspicious circumstances, down-on-his-luck insurance investigator Tom (Brian Gleeson) becomes involved. We know the sisters clearly wanted John Paul dead, but did they actually do it? Tom’s family business will go bankrupt if he has to pay the insurance premiums, so he’s highly motivated to pin the (potential) crime on at least one of the women. Watch Bad Sisters on Apple TV.
White Lotus (2021 — )
If the characters of Your Friends & Neighbors went on vacation, it might look something like this. Each season of Mike White’s anthology series begins with a flashback to the future, depicting the rather dire consequences that at least some of the vacationers who head to one of the White Lotus resorts will face (each season features a standalone storyline and location, with recurring characters). The first season’s manager, Armond, played by Murray Bartlett, makes it clear to the staff that the super-rich guests are nothing more than overgrown children and should be pampered accordingly. At these ultra-luxurious resorts, where people have paid absurd amounts of money for a luxurious vacation, competition and general toxicity ensure that everyone will have a terrible time, regardless of the price. And yet, do I still want to stay there? Watch White Lotus on HBO Max.
Good Girls (2018–2021)
Beth, Ruby, and Annie (Christina Hendricks, Retta, and Mae Whitman, respectively) are three mothers in suburban Michigan, all struggling financially. They’re no criminal masterminds, so they hatch a plan to rob a local grocery store to solve the problem—a store that turns out to be a front for a money-laundering operation. They steal $500,000, but the gang leader whose money they unknowingly stole wants it back, and the store manager, having spotted one of their tattoos, threatens to blackmail them. It’s definitely not a sitcom, but it’s a solid comedy-drama with a talented cast whose characters become increasingly embroiled in the drama over four seasons.Watch Good Girls on Netflix .
Drug Thief (2025)
Ray and Manny (Brian Tyree Henry and Wagner Moura) are childhood friends from Philadelphia who make a living posing as DEA agents and robbing small downtown drug houses. Manny wants to start a new life, and Ray’s eccentric mother, Teresa (Kate Mulgrew, clearly enjoying herself), needs big money fast. And, as you might have guessed, we’re about to get to the “last big heist,” which in this case involves the robbery of a drug lab, part of a larger operation targeted by the legitimate DEA. Watch “Drug Thief” on Apple TV.
Deli Boys (2025–)
Pakistani-American journalist and producer Abdullah Saeed has long been known for his investigative reporting and Vice documentaries, many of which explore the impact of cannabis laws. This experience lends unique verisimilitude to this comedy series, which follows two brothers—the hard-working Mir (Asif Ali) and the party-loving Raj (Saagar Sheikh)—after the death of their wealthy father, when they discover that much of the family’s income comes not from a chain of delicatessens but from an illegal drug operation operating behind the scenes. The series is fast-paced and often hilarious, exploring the topic of image-maintenance in modern America, but this time, the leads are not Jon Hamm-like. Watch “Deli Boys” on Hulu .
Big Little Lies (2017–)
Like White Lotus , part of Big Little Lies’s charm lies in watching a few very rich, very attractive, mostly white women navigate hardship in a beautiful place (in this case, Monterey, California). Unlike Your Friends & Neighbors , money doesn’t play a significant role here, except that even small differences in perceived wealth can lead to big drama—but secrets abound. In the first season, five women (played by Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, and Zoë Kravitz) find themselves embroiled in a murder investigation tied to a school fundraiser that threatens to bring their entire personal lives to light. Watch Big Little Lies on HBO Max.
Dead to Me (2019–2022)
Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini make a great TV couple in this dark, twisted comedy about two women brought together by tragedy… and lies. Applegate plays Jen Harding, a realtor whose husband was killed in a hit-and-run accident; she’s dealing with the tragedy and draws inspiration from Judy Cardellini, who maintained a cheerful outlook after her fiancé Steve died of a heart attack—which was easier, considering Steve was still secretly alive. Then we discover that Judy owns a storage unit with a car suspiciously similar to the one that hit Jen’s husband—and that’s just part of the first episode. From there, the series gets even wilder.Watch Dead to Me on Netflix.
Santa Clarita Diet (2017–2019)
Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant star in this comedy-horror series about a real estate couple whose lives are turned upside down when she discovers she’s become a zombie (due to rotten shellfish, naturally). She enjoys her new, less-exciting life and mostly only eats bad people, so all’s well. The premise is obviously horror-movie-ish, but the joke is that everyone in the suburbs is living beyond their means and everyone has something to hide. It’s just that in the Hammonds’ case, the big secret is that she’s undead, and the crimes they’re hiding involve cannibalism.Watch Santa Clarita Diet on Netflix.
