As Part of Amazon’s Spring Sale, You Can Get a Colorsoft Kindle for Just $10 More Than the Paperwhite.

I’ve loved Kindle e-readers since the original Kindle Paperwhite came out in 2012, but until recently, my dream of reading color comics on a Kindle remained just that—a pipe dream. Then last summer, the Kindle Colorsoft finally launched, and it’s now on sale for $169.99 (originally $249.99) as part of Amazon’s Spring Sale . According to price tracking tools , this is the biggest discount on this device since its release. In fact, upgrading from a Kindle Paperwhite to the color version only costs $10 more.

You can also get it with three months of free Kindle Unlimited (it automatically renews unless you cancel), and if you’re a Prime member, you can top it up with several free ebooks . Here’s what you can expect from Colorsoft.

The Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition is exactly what its name suggests: a Kindle e-reader with a color screen. It’s essentially the same device and design as the Kindle Paperwhite, with the same dimensions, weight, and 16GB of storage. It also has the same features, such as an adjustable warm backlight, IPX8 water resistance, and an ad-free lock screen that either displays the cover of the book you’re reading or the default wallpaper. Battery life is shorter than the Paperwhite’s: Amazon claims up to eight weeks compared to the Paperwhite’s 12, but that’s still plenty for most users. However, according to our review , the technology that powers the color display can degrade the quality of black-and-white content (like regular books). So, unless you’re an avid comic book reader, the Colorsoft may not be the best option for you.

What do you think at the moment?

The Kaleido 3’s seven-inch display offers an industry-standard resolution of 300 pixels per inch (ppi) for black-and-white content and 150 ppi for color, but it also utilizes unique Amazon-developed technology to enhance color reproduction. If you enjoy reading comics, the Colorsoft Signature Edition is a true eye-catcher: the colors look like those in a printed newspaper, and the feature allows you to zoom in on each panel of the comic, allowing you to enjoy the drawings without manually zooming in.
