Samsung Now Officially Supports AirDrop, but Only for These Devices.

In November , Google made a stunning announcement : Quick Share suddenly became compatible with Apple AirDrop . At the time, compatibility was limited to the Pixel 10, but that didn’t matter: Google made history by transforming data sharing features from platform-specific to cross-platform.
While AirDrop and Quick Share have long been the most convenient ways to share large files between devices, they only worked if you and your friend were using the same operating system. This limitation created some inconvenience, but as cross-platform support expands, these inconveniences are mitigating. Google first announced plans to expand AirDrop compatibility with Quick Share last month , when Android VP of Engineering Eric Kay noted, “In 2026, we’re going to expand [AirDrop support] to many more devices.”
While there’s no official timeline for adding AirDrop support, Nothing has stated that it’s “exploring” the possibility of adding it, and Qualcomm is “looking forward” to implementing the feature in its Snapdragon chips. However, we now know of one Android device that will support AirDrop very soon: the Samsung Galaxy S26.
AirDrop support was introduced in the Galaxy S26 series.
Samsung officially confirmed this on March 22 (technically Monday, March 23 KST). At launch, AirDrop support will only work on the Galaxy S26 series , including the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26 Plus, and Galaxy S26 Ultra. This is disappointing for users of the Galaxy S25 and earlier models, but it’s possible Samsung will expand support over time. After all, Google began rolling out AirDrop support to Pixel 9 devices late last month .
If you have a Galaxy S26 device, this feature is already available—provided you live in Korea. Samsung says the feature will be available in the US later this week, but at the time of writing, the update is only available to Galaxy users in Korea. (I’ll update this article when Samsung releases the update to US users.)
How to enable AirDrop support in Quick Share on Galaxy
If you have an S26 and the update is already available, you just need to go to Settings > Software update (or System updates ), then tap “Download and install,” “Check for system updates,” or “Check for software updates,” depending on your device.
After updating your phone, you’ll need to manually enable AirDrop support for Quick Share—it won’t appear automatically. To do this, go to Settings > Connected Devices > Quick Share , and then enable the new “Share with Apple devices” option.
If you tap the option itself, you’ll find a full description of the feature, which you may already know: the recipient must set AirDrop settings on their iPhone to “Everyone,” and to receive the file, you must open the “Quick Access” feature on your device. Samsung warns that your phone may temporarily disconnect from Wi-Fi when searching for or sending a file to other iPhone users.
