I Can’t Wait to Try Spotify’s New Playlist Sorting Feature.

Spotify is adding a new way to sort playlists for paid subscribers. This feature, called Smart Reorder , automatically sorts songs by BPM (beats per minute) and key. This is perfect for those who want to gradually increase the intensity of songs.
It’s worth noting that this feature only works with playlists you’ve created or mixed using Spotify Mix , which allows you to add or customize transitions between songs, just like a DJ. Furthermore, since Smart Reorder is an extension of Spotify Mix, you can’t use one without the other. Spotify Mix hasn’t yet launched in all markets where the streaming service is available, including my region, and therefore Smart Reorder isn’t available in those regions yet. It’s a shame, because I really want to try it.
How to use Spotify’s Smart Reorder feature
If you have a Spotify Premium subscription, using Smart Reorder is very simple. Simply open any playlist you’ve created or mixed and click the “Edit” button above the first song. Scroll down and select “Smart Reorder .” Spotify will automatically reorder your songs by BPM, and you can click the “Save” button at the top to confirm your changes.
Smart Reorder should be very useful for people like me who prefer workout playlists with gradually increasing intensity. I enjoy listening to high-BPM songs at the end of gym workouts or runs, but this may not be ideal for everyone. Some types of exercise, like cycling, require alternating between high- and low-BPM songs as the intensity changes, and Smart Reorder won’t work in these cases. Some users on Reddit also suggested creating duplicate playlists before using Smart Reorder, as it may not automatically restore the original playlist order after saving. To duplicate a Spotify playlist, open it and tap the three-dot button above the song list. Select “Add to another playlist” > “New playlist,” then add a name for the duplicate and tap “Create.”
This is another example of Spotify using AI DJ more effectively than Apple Music, where the AutoMix AI DJ feature was a mixed bag for me . Currently, AutoMix only handles transitions between songs, and Apple hasn’t added the ability to reorder playlists.
