Sony’s Massive 85-Inch Bravia 5 Mini LED 4K TV Is Now on Sale for $700 Off.

Mini LED technology has finally made its way to larger, more mainstream TVs, but prices quickly rise once you consider premium brands and larger screen sizes—which is why the current price of the 85-inch Sony Bravia 5 stands out. It’s currently listed on Amazon for $1,698 (previously $2,399.99), the lowest price yet, according to price-tracking sites . At this size, this discount makes a significant difference, especially if you’re looking for a large screen from a brand known for reliable processing and a quality Smart TV interface, rather than just chasing technical specs.
The Bravia 5 Steps TV is the successor to the Sony X90L, replacing full-array local dimming with Mini LED backlighting and increasing the number of dimming zones. It runs Google TV (version 12) and supports Dolby Vision and DTS audio pass-through. For Sony soundbar owners, there’s also a practical advantage: the TV’s built-in speakers can function as a center channel. For gaming, two HDMI 2.1 ports support 4K resolution at 120Hz , as well as variable refresh rates and G-sync compatibility. However, Game Mode isn’t flawless. The pixel response time is somewhat steep, which can lead to noticeable image blur, especially in fast-paced games. SDR brightness is high enough for daytime viewing, but HDR output doesn’t deliver the punch you’d expect from a Mini LED panel of this size and price.
The Bravia 5’s biggest drawbacks are its inconsistent contrast and viewing flexibility. Despite the improved backlight, black levels and overall contrast aren’t a significant improvement over the older X90L, and glare can still be distracting in bright rooms. Its narrow viewing angle also limits its appeal for wide viewing areas. If picture quality is a priority, competing Mini LED models from TCL or Hisense, or even some OLED options, offer higher contrast for a similar price. However, for buyers who value Sony’s picture processing, Google TV’s clean interface, and the brand’s long-term reliability, this price reduction makes the 85-inch Bravia 5 a much more attractive option than usual.
