Play These Wordle Alternatives While the NYT Tech Guild Is on Strike

It’s Monday, the New York Times Tech Guild is on strike, and those of you not crossing the picket line may find yourself struggling without your daily Wordle fix. Luckily, you were caught by the striking guild members.
Thanks to the union’s Guild Builds website, there are now plenty of things to do until the strike ends. These include games like Wordle (Strikle) and Connections’ successor (Connections: Strike Edition), as well as plays on classics like Frogger and Breakout. My personal favorite is Scabby’s Fair Contract Builder, where you get to play as everyone’s favorite inflatable rodent without skin care.
There are 11 games in total, with word puzzles being updated “as possible,” NewsGuild of New York spokeswoman Jen Sheehan told The Verge .
The New York Times Tech Guild, which is part of the NewsGuild of New York along with the NYTimes Guild or Wirecutter Union , represents workers responsible for maintaining the New York Times gaming section and the publication’s websites and apps. The guild, with more than 600 members , says it is “the largest technical workers’ union with bargaining rights in the country” and has been on strike since November 4 as part of the fight for a “fair contract”, focusing on “fair cause”, “fair wages” ” and “a respectful offer to return to the office.” The Guild Strike urges visitors to avoid NYT Games as well as the NYT Cooking app .
As part of the picket against NYT Cooking, the Guild Builds website also features a small collection of strike-themed recipes. My favorite? “Let’s get this contract sorted out” (Bob Belcher would be proud).
Perhaps most importantly for workers, the site also has a donation button. Follow the Tech Guild on X for updates on the progress of the strike.
