These Google Photo Editing Tools Will Soon Be Free

Google has announced that some of its AI-powered editing tools will soon be free for all Google Photos users. Previously, to use some of these tools, you either had to be a Google Pixel user or have a paid Google One subscription.

New features available for all Google Photos include:

  • Magic editor

  • Magic eraser

  • Blur

  • Portrait light

  • Portrait blur

  • HDR effect for photos and videos

  • Pop color

  • Suggestions for the sky

  • Cinematic photographs

  • Styles in the collage editor

  • Video effects

These features will be available in Google Photos on the Android and iOS apps, as well as on Chromebooks. You’ll need an Android phone running at least Android 8.0 or an iOS device running iOS 15 or later. For Chromebooks, you’ll need at least 3GB of RAM and ChromeOS 118 or later.

The Magic Editor, exclusive to the Pixel 8 series, uses generative AI to easily drag and drop objects into photos. There’s one catch: Google Photos users on Android and iOS will be limited to ten Magic Editor saves per month. If you need more saves in Magic Editor, you’ll need a Pixel device or a Google One subscription (2TB plan or higher).

AI tools will gradually roll out to Google Photos users starting May 15th.
