You Can Now Pin up to Three Messages in WhatsApp Chats

Late last year, WhatsApp finally added the ability to pin messages to the top of the chat. But if you’ve ever been in a free group conversation, you know that one pinned message is rarely enough. Do you attach directions to the meeting location or a link to maps? A shopping list for your partner or travel plans you’re trying to negotiate?

Luckily, Meta has given you a tool to help put an end to this madness—you can now pin up to three messages in any one-to-one or group chat.

How to Pin Multiple Messages in WhatsApp Chats

If you’re new to pinning on WhatsApp, here’s the basic formula: On iPhone, long-press on any message and tap More in the context menu, or tap the Menu button at the top if you’re using Android. Then select the Pin option. You can decide how long the message will remain at the top of the chat: 24 hours , 7 days or 30 days .

Previously, if you tried to pin another message, you would get a pop-up telling you that it would replace your current pinned message. Are you sure you want to do this? But now you’ll be able to pin your second and third messages the same way: press and hold, select More , then Pin , and select a time slot.

Once you’ve done this, you’ll notice there’s a slight change in the pinned bar at the top in the form of little pill-shaped icons that indicate there are two or three posts pinned at the top. Click on it to view all pinned messages.

WhatsApp currently limits users to only three pinned messages, but there is always a chance that this limit will increase in the future. When you try to pin a fourth pinned message, WhatsApp will automatically delete the oldest message, regardless of the time period you select, and replace it with a new one. You can tap a pinned message to unpin it at any time.

Mark Zuckerberg announced the feature on his WhatsApp channel and it will be rolled out gradually over the next few weeks. So if you don’t see it in the app yet, hang on; it will appear soon.
