Apple Is Working on a Mid-Range Version of AirPods

If you’re looking for new AirPods, you might want to wait a few months. According to a new report from Bloomberg , Apple is set to release not one, but two new AirPods models later this year, offering some notable improvements over the current entry-level headphones. Most recently, the company made a minor update to its AirPods Pro last year, introducing a USB-C case to match the iPhone 15 case’s new charging port.

Mid-range AirPods can be tracked in their case

The report states that Apple is preparing to replace the 3rd generation AirPods (which currently sell for $179) and 2nd generation AirPods (which cost $129) with two new models codenamed B768E (E stands for entry-level ) and B768M (M (M)). means average level). Both models will have an updated design, a better fit, and a USB-C port on the charging case.

While it’s likely that the “entry-level” headphones will be comparable to current non-pro models in their features, if not their appearance, leaks suggest that the B768M AirPods will add active noise cancellation (currently an exclusive feature of the AirPods Pro). , as well as the Find My speaker in the charging case (only AirPods Pro can be found in the case at this time).

There will be no new AirPods Pro this year

If you’ve been waiting for the next generation of AirPods Pro, you’ll have to wait. Bloomberg reports that a new model of top-end headphones is not expected until 2025. However, a minor update to the AirPods Max over-ear headphones, replacing the existing Lightning port with a USB-C charging port, is also planned for late 2024.

Apple is expected to begin production of around 20-25 million units of the new AirPods in May, with a launch in the fall, possibly at the same time as the iPhone 16.
