Facebook, Instagram and Themes Are Disabled

It’s not just you, no one can get their meta accounts to work this morning. Instagram says it can’t update your feed, Facebook has logged you out, and topics will take forever to load. What should we do on this cold Tuesday morning, Meta? Our jobs ?

I first noticed the problem with Facebook: when I went to facebook.com , I was greeted with the initial login page, which was strange since I wasn’t actually logging out. But no matter: I thought I’d just go in again. But when I tried, Facebook said my password was wrong. Oh oh .

My first thought, of course, was that I had been hacked. Panic. What else could it be? The only thing is that I never received an email saying that someone had changed my Facebook password, which was not possible in the first place since I have 2FA enabled. Logic finally overcame my nerves, and I thought that perhaps this was not just about me . During these trying times, you turn to Twitter – er, X – to see if other people are facing the same problem. Of course, we are all in the same boat.

The good news, if history is any indicator, is that this disruption won’t last too long, although you may be without your meta products for a while today. Back in 2021 , Meta suffered a similar outage that took Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and Oculus offline. The outage lasted nearly six hours, which Meta attributed to the outage of the “backbone connection” to the data centers during routine maintenance. If this outage is anything like last time, Meta’s employees are having a tough time as their internal communications were also cut off. Imagine trying to put out the world’s largest digital fire without being able to properly resolve the issue with your team.
