How to Pay Someone Using Apple Pay Cash
You don’t always need Venmo or PayPal to pay a friend. If they have an iPhone and have Apple Pay Cash set up, it only takes a couple of taps on the iPhone to send or receive money.
How Apple Pay Cash works
Apple Pay Cash appears as a separate card in the Wallet app, and you can transfer money to it from your bank account or debit card at any time. If you don’t have any funds on your Apple Pay Cash card, your money will be debited from the bank account you linked when you set up Apple Pay Cash. If you haven’t already, firstset up Apple Pay Cash by going to Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay and turn on Apple Pay Cash . Under Payment Cards , tap Apple Cash , select Continue, and follow the instructions to complete setup.
Once set up, go to Wallet > Apple Cash > More > Add Money to add funds to your Apple Cash card. Apple Pay Cash only works in the US and on devices with an Apple ID account and two-factor authentication enabled.
Apple allows you to do this from the Messages and Wallet apps. When you use the Wallet app, it still opens the iMessage conversation in the Wallet app itself, so we’ll talk about the most convenient way to do this, using the Messages app.
How to send money via Apple Pay Cash using the Messages app
The easiest way to send and receive money is to use the Messages app. You can do this in the same iMessage thread, track transactions, and receive updates when you receive payment.
Open the Messages app on your iPhone and navigate to the conversation with the person you want to send money to. Click the Plus button and select Apple Cash from the menu.
Here, enter the amount you want to send and click the Send button to view the payment. The text message window will display a preview, click the Send button to send the message and complete the transfer. If everything is ok, double click the side button to confirm the payment. You will need to use Face ID, Touch ID or a password to confirm your payment.
How to Request Payment Using Apple Pay Cash on iPhone
You can also use the same method to request payment. Open a conversation, tap the Plus button, select Apple Cash , enter the amount, and select the Request option instead. You will see a small preview of your cash request. Click the Send button to send your request message to the conversation.
If you don’t have enough money on your Apple Cash card, you can also switch to a debit card. Once you’ve clicked the Send button, tap your Apple Card , then tap the Apple Cash slider to turn it off, then select the debit card you want.
When someone sends you money using Apple Pay Cash in the Messages app, you’ll see it in the conversation. You will also receive a notification that can be found in the Wallet app. Here, tap your Apple Cash card and you’ll see your latest transactions right at the top. You can use this balance to pay for something online or in stores, or transfer it to your bank account.
