Samsung Wants You to Experience Galaxy AI on Your Non-Galaxy Android Phone

The smartphone market is quite competitive, especially in the Android ecosystem. For many, it’s iPhone or nothing, but for the rest of the world—and the large percentage of Americans who don’t want to be locked into the Apple ecosystem—the options are plentiful.

Although Samsung ranks second in smartphone sales in the world , it wants more. Specifically, he wants you to buy a Galaxy. Snarky advertising aside, Samsung has actually come up with a clever idea to convince you to buy one of their smartphones called Try Galaxy . This web app “turns” your smartphone into a Galaxy by running a simulation of the One user interface on your third-party phone.

Previously , Try Galaxy was only available for the iPhone , likely because Samsung saw a big opportunity in luring iOS users away from the Apple ecosystem. Now it’s taken it one step further and allowed other Android (but not Galaxy) users to try it out . While One UI isn’t all that different from other Android skins, it’s a unique enough experience that Samsung thinks may lure some users away from Google, OnePlus, and other popular Android smartphone platforms.

While this news is interesting for anyone who wants to emulate One UI or even a foldable phone on their Android, the reason why this change made headlines this morning is because Samsung has also added its AI features from One UI 6.1 to Try Galaxy . . The web app now includes Live Translate, Chat Assist, Note Assist, Photo Assist and Circle search features.

Before you get too excited, you won’t be able to try out these features like you would if you had a Galaxy phone running One UI 6.1. Instead, you can connect to each of the widgets on your home screen and view the simulated experience on your screen. For example, Live Translate carries out a telephone conversation between a taxi driver and a previous passenger who left his phone in the taxi driver’s car. The driver speaks English and Live Translate translates into Spanish and vice versa for the driver. Photo Assist shows how features like generative editing and reflection erasing work, using curated photos and edits to demonstrate the AI.

Other features, such as Chat Assist, simply play a short video about the feature above a brief description of its capabilities. Still, it’s a great way to simulate what your experience might be like if you decide to buy a new Galaxy phone, especially since all the other Try Galaxy features like the Fold Experience, the Messages experience, and the simulated camera app are still here. .

If you want to try it yourself, go to trygalaxy.com . (You’ll need to use Safari for iOS or Chrome for Android). On iOS, tap the Share button, then tap Add to Home Screen . On Android, tap the three dots in the top right corner, then select Install App . Then simply launch Try Galaxy from your home screen or app launcher.
