Use This App to Customize Your Windows Taskbar

The wallpaper on your computer is, of course, beautiful, but there’s one problem: the ugly white taskbar is partially obscuring it, or worse, conflicting with it. The free and open source TranslucentTB app is a good way to fix this. It is resource-intensive and allows you to customize the taskbar in just a couple of clicks. You can download it from the Microsoft Store or Github and start using it right away.

After installation, TranslucentTB launches from the system tray. Click on the icon and you will see the options.

It looks like a lot, but don’t be intimidated: start by selecting an effect from the Desktop submenu. There are four different effects available for Windows 11 users. There’s a default Normal , which doesn’t make any changes – you just get the default Windows 11 taskbar.

Next is Opaque , which makes the taskbar one color. You can select the color using the Accent Color option in the same menu. Here’s the ugly blue color I chose for some reason:

Next we have Clear , which makes the taskbar look like it’s not there at all. As a result, you will be left with floating icons:

Finally, my personal favorite: acrylic . This gives your taskbar a blurry transparency:

There are many options here, and there is room for improvement. For example: The Clear setting looks pretty good when you have no windows, but looks weird when the wallpaper covers almost everything. You can only make the taskbar transparent when there are no windows open—just choose Clear from the Desktop submenu and something else from the Visible Windows submenu. Or maybe you only pay attention to transparency when the window is maximized? then configure something other than “Clear” in the “Maximized Window” submenu.

There are a few more submenus you can customize, allowing you to customize the specific appearance when the Start menu, search menu, or task view are open. This is an application that you can set up in a few minutes to make your computer more personalized. After that you can just enjoy it.
