How to Change Your Name on Facebook

About three billion people use Facebook every month, and it makes sense that some of them, for privacy reasons or on a whim, won’t always want to use their real name. Or maybe they changed their name. Whatever the reason, there are several ways to do this.

Before you start changing your name, there are a few things you need to keep in mind. Facebook has several rules under its name “Standards” . Platform names cannot have the following:

  • Symbols, numbers, unusual capitalization, repeated characters or punctuation.

  • Characters from multiple languages

  • Any titles (for example: professional, religious)

  • Words or phrases instead of a name

  • Offensive or suggestive words of any kind

As for what ‘s allowed, Facebook suggests that the name on your profile be the name your friends or family call you in real life, and should also be somewhat the same as the name on your ID, which Facebook may request to have your account verified if you are having trouble accessing your account. Nicknames can be used as a first or middle name if they are a variation of your real name, such as Alex instead of Alexander or Becca instead of Rebecca. Another thing to keep in mind is that you can only change your name on Facebook every 60 days.

How to change your Facebook name on the desktop site

To change your name on Facebook, first go to Facebook.com and sign in. Then in the top right corner where your profile picture is, click it and a drop-down menu should appear. From this menu, select Settings & Privacy and then Settings. On the left side, you should see something called “Account Meta Center” and click where it says “View more in Account Center .”

Once done, select Profiles from the menu on the left and then select your Facebook account. Another pop-up window should appear that says Name, Username, Profile Photo, and Avatar . From this list, select “Name” , after which you will be given several text fields for your first, middle and last names. Log in to your account and in the app, select the Menu tab in the lower right corner. Then select Settings & Privacy and then Settings. How to add a nickname on Facebook

Facebook also allows you to use nicknames or alternative names in case you don’t want to use your real name. To add a nickname, click your profile icon and tap your name to go to your profile. In the “Other names” section. it should say “Add nickname, birth name…” – click on that. You will then be shown a text box where you can add your nickname, maiden name, etc. You should also see a checkbox to have your other names appear at the top of your profile. How to change the name of your Facebook page

To change the name, first make sure you have the Administrator or Editor role for your page. Then log into Facebook and click on your profile icon in the top right corner; you should see your pages listed under your personal Facebook profile. If you don’t, click “View All Profiles” and select the page you want to switch to. After that, click on your page’s profile icon and select “Settings & Privacy” from the drop-down menu. Then select settings and you will be taken to the general page settings . To change the page name, click where it says “Edit” next to the current name. Enter a new name and click View Change . Once this is done, you will be asked to enter your Facebook password and then click Request Change to submit your new name. Please note that you can only change your page name every 60 days.
