TikTok Now Has a Dedicated App for Apple Vision Pro

When Apple officially released Vision Pro on February 2, it had over 600 apps optimized for VisionOS . However, while apps like Microsoft Word and Disney+ were available to bridge the gap between the typical Apple device and the Vision Pro, many other “standard” apps were not. Some companies like Netflix and Spotify have announced that their apps won’t be available on the Vision Pro, which doesn’t bode well for a device that starts at $3,499.

However, high-profile applications are still in development. Case in point: TikTok. The internet’s blackest hole of procrastination now has an app designed specifically for Vision Pro .

However, don’t expect anything revolutionary. After all, it’s still TikTok. When you load up the app on your Vision Pro, you’ll see the same familiar vertical video feed you see on your iPhone or iPad, only this time in a floating window. However, the “unlimited” space of mixed reality has allowed TikTok to improve its user experience. Comments now open in a separate panel rather than closing the video itself. The same goes for creator profiles: if you want to know more about a creator, you can open their profile in the side window without looking up from the video you’re watching.

Perhaps another major benefit of Vision Pro is the ability to use TikTok in a variety of background environments. Sure, you can watch TikTok in a floating window in your living room, but why not watch short videos in Yosemite National Park or on the Moon ? Anything to justify buying a $3,499 TikTok viewing device.

While TikTok certainly doesn’t yet offer video content that truly takes advantage of mixed reality, let alone virtual reality, it’s good to see the company taking Vision Pro seriously. Let’s hope more video apps follow suit. (I’m looking at you, Netflix and YouTube.)
