How to Post Anonymously in a Facebook Group

If you’re in a Facebook group and feel like sharing an opinion but don’t want your name attached to it, you can do so. Facebook’s Anonymous Posts feature was first introduced in 2020 as part of a new group type aimed at parents, but as of 2022 the feature is available to all types of Facebook groups.

What you should know about anonymous messages

Before you go on an anonymous rant in a Facebook group, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, all anonymous posts must be approved by one of the group’s admins, even if post approval is disabled for the group. Secondly, if you post anonymously, your name will still be visible to group admins and moderators. Facebook will also be able to associate your identity with an anonymous post, but it won’t be visible to everyone in the group.

To create an anonymous post, first log into your Facebook account and select the group you want to post to. Select the Anonymous Message option next to the other message creation options. You may also see a toggle when you start writing a message. You should see a pop-up window explaining how anonymous messages work, as described earlier. Write your post, remembering to follow Facebook’s community guidelines , and click “Submit.” Your post will be sent to the group admins for approval, and once approved it should appear in the group’s feed.
