CES 2024: Nvidia Just Announced “Super” Versions of Its Graphics Cards Costing More Than $600
If you’ve been putting off buying a new graphics card because of its high price, Nvidia finally has some great options. Its new RTX 40 Super cards, building on the already successful technology of RTX 40 cards like the 4080, 4090 and 4070 Ti, will offer great performance at a lower price.
Even though AMD often offers lower prices, many continue to hope that Nvidia will release super versions of its top cards, offering a great way to get next-gen performance at lower prices than its current cards. Now, it looks like the wait has been worth it as Nvidia has unveiled two high-end Super cards at CES this year: the RTX 4080 Super and RTX 4070 Ti Super. Two high-end cards will go on sale before the end of the month: the 4080 Super will go on sale on January 31 for $999, and the 4070 Ti Super will go on sale on January 24 for $799.
The company also unveiled the much cheaper RTX 4070 Super, which boasts a 20 percent upgrade in CUDA cores over the original 4070 and will cost just $599. The 4070 Super will be released on January 17, and the company says it’s faster than the 3090.
Here’s a closer look at the specs Nvidia revealed for each card:

The 4070 Super will have 36 shader TFLOPRs, 82 Gen 3 RT TFLOPS, 568 Gen 4 AI TOPS, DLSS 3 support, and 12 GB of memory.

The 4070 Ti Super will be equipped with 44 shader teraflops, 120 RT teraflops of the 3rd generation, 706 AI TOPS of the 4th generation, DLSS 3 and 16 GB of memory.

The 4080 Super, which will be second to the 4090, will offer 52 shader teraflops, 121 RT teraflops 3rd generation, 836 AI TOPS 4th generation, DLSS 3 and 16 GB of memory.
What does Super even mean?
If you’re confused by the nickname “Super”, don’t be. Nvidia often releases new cards with different names, such as Ti and Super. Super cards are essentially just GPUs with minor upgrades over the originals. In this case, they’ve also seen significant price cuts, making them one of the best ways to buy an Nvidia RTX 40 Series graphics card.
You can still buy the original 4070, 4070 Ti, and 4080, but if you wait until the Super cards are released, you can save some money and also get a little more performance for the price.
