You Should Make Hot Chocolate With Nutella Immediately
When temperatures drop and the weather turns dreary, few treats are as cozy as homemade hot chocolate. While the typical from-scratch method produces a delicious hot drink, I’m interested in something a little more extraordinary.
While it’s easy to make a cup of cocoa from scratch, it often tastes dull. It could be a certain blandness that extra cocoa powder or cream can’t eliminate, or worse, clumps of chocolate. If you’ve ever made hot cocoa from a chocolate bar, there’s a good chance you’ve had little chocolate slugs swimming around in your cup of hot milk. While it’s not “disgusting” per se, it’s not quite what you might imagine.
A good cup of hot chocolate is smooth, chocolatey, and sweet. A chocolate bar, even melted, does not emulsify well with milk or water. Nutella dissolves easily in hot liquid. This simple method requires just two ingredients and is ready in about three minutes. To make things easier, this popular chocolate hazelnut spread is already fully sweetened and contains emulsifiers, so you don’t have to work hard to create the perfect cup to drink from. Throw on a pair of those fluffy comfy socks you bought for Christmas and whip up some delicious hot cocoa with hazelnuts and Nutella.
How to make Nutella hot cocoa
Add a tablespoon of Nutella to the mug. Pour in four ounces (half a cup) of hot liquid. I used water from an electric kettle. Leave the water in the cup for a minute or so to allow the Nutella to soften. Whisk or stir with a small fork for about 30 seconds to stir the mixture and dissolve the Nutella. Once the mixture is smooth and chocolatey, add another four ounces of liquid and stir. I prefer to add boiling water first to completely dissolve the remaining ingredients, then add four ounces of milk to bring it to a more drinkable temperature. Add some marshmallows to your fresh cocoa and get cozy.
Even if you prefer Swiss Miss or your own personal cocoa powder blend, you can always add a scoop of Nutella to your mug for a nice nutty kick. He doesn’t hesitate to share his mug space with other chocolate concoctions. As long as the hot liquid is involved, it will dissolve.
When you get to the leftover jar of Nutella, simply add some hot water and stir it around. To get every last drop, you can screw the lid on and shake it: but be careful, the steam can make a bit of a mess. To avoid this, use warm liquid first, shake to dissolve the chocolate spread, and then pour it into the mug. Microwave it to your desired temperature and enjoy.
Nutella hot chocolate recipe
Ingredients:
-
1 tablespoon Nutella
-
4 ounces boiling water
-
4 ounces milk
-
Marshmallow (optional)
Add Nutella to your mug. Pour hot water into the mug and leave for a minute or so. Whisk or stir with a fork until the Nutella is completely dissolved, about 30 seconds. Add milk and stir again. If desired, top with marshmallows and enjoy immediately. Note that the ratio is one tablespoon of Nutella per eight ounces of liquid, so you can use all water or all milk if you prefer. Just remember to heat it up first.
