What’s New in Prime Video and Freevee in January 2024

Prime Video’s January slate includes several original films and series starring A-list stars. First up is Role Play (January 12), an action-comedy starring Kaley Cuoco and David Oyelowo, the former leading a double life as an assassin. Coming later this month is the drama show The Expats (January 26), based on the novel by Janice Y.K. Lee “Expatriates” 2016. The six-episode series, created by Lulu Wang and starring Nicole Kidman, tells the stories of the expat community in Hong Kong. In the sports comedy Underdogs (also Jan. 26), Snoop Dogg plays a former NFL player who agrees to coach a youth football team to avoid jail time.

For stand-up fans, there’s a new family-friendly special from Kevin James called “Kevin James: Independent” (Jan. 23), which talks about parenting, marriage and aging. Finally, the first season of the animated musical (adult) comedy series Hazbin Hotel will be released (January 19), which follows the princess of Hell on her quest to rehabilitate sinners so they can be accepted into heaven. The pilot episode premiered on creator Vivienne Medrano’s YouTube channel in 2019 and is produced by independent studio A24 and voiced by Erika Henningsen, Stephanie Beatriz and Keith David.

Prime is also adding several movie franchises to its library this month, including the first four Mission: Impossible films and five Superman films, as well as all nine Jesse Stone installments.
