Otherwise, that long-awaited long weekend has a way of sneaking up on you and passing you by, just like every other run-of-the-mill, miserable two-day weekend. Here are the dates you need to know to extend your free time by taking advantage of the 2024 long weekend.

When planning a holiday in the new year, the best way to maximize your free time is to always request days around an existing long weekend. And you should now mark your calendar for the major holidays and long weekends in 2024. After all, the earlier in the year you request contiguous PTO days off, the more likely it is that your request will be approved.

    • Departure: August 30 (Friday)

    • Takeoff: October 11 (Friday)

    • Departure: November 8 (Friday)

  • Thursday, November 28 (Thanksgiving Day)

    • Departure: November 29 (Friday) (If Friday is already a day off for you, take off the following Monday)

    • Takeoff: December 23 – December. 27 (Monday to Friday), using four-day PTO to get nine days off in a row.
