How to Get Hulu Content on Disney+ Now

Back in May , we learned that Disney was planning to combine Hulu and Disney+ into one huge app. The plan was to allow customers to choose each service individually if they wanted, but for those who signed up for both, their experience would be more seamless. I think monopolies have advantages.

Just over six months later, the process appears to have begun. Starting today, December 6th, the “vast majority” of Hulu’s library will be available to stream on the Disney+ app , provided you subscribe to both platforms, of course. At this point, it’s not entirely clear how much of Hulu’s library will be available during this initial transition, but we do know that some titles won’t be available due to licensing deals, including Modern Family and Love Island .

You also lose access to live TV if you subscribe to it: you’ll still need the standalone Hulu app if you want to tune in to these channels. Additionally, Hulu content viewing will not be tracked across apps. For example, if you want a Hulu show in the Hulu app, it won’t show those episodes as being watched on Disney+. The same thing happens the other way around.

Of course, many of these limitations are simply the result of beta testing. Let’s hope Disney addresses the bigger issues ahead of a larger launch in March that aims to make watching Hulu on Disney+ more natural.

What’s interesting is that this beta test is happening on the standard Disney+ app. When the merger was first announced, it was marketed as an entirely new app that users could try out in beta in December. Now it looks like “beta” is simply watching Hulu content in the same Disney+ app you already have.

How to Watch Hulu Content on Disney+

To access Hulu content on the Disney+ app, you’ll need to be a subscriber to both platforms. This can be done either through the Disney+/Hulu bundle or by subscribing to both services separately, but you’ll need to use the same email address in both cases so Disney knows you’re subscribed.

How much does a Disney+ and Hulu subscription cost?

If you want to take advantage of the Disney+/Hulu package called “ Duo ,” you can choose either an ad-supported plan for $9.99 per month or an ad-free plan for $19.99 per month.

You can also subscribe separately: Disney+ costs $7.99 per month with ads and $13.99 per month without ads. Hulu charges $7.99 for ads, with the option to add Disney+ with ads for $1.99 per month. You can also subscribe ad-free for $17.99 per month.

If you’re a student, you can get Hulu with ads for $1.99 per month. This is the best option if you’re eligible, as you can add on a promotional Disney+ plan for $1.99 per month, giving you a “package” for $3.98 per month.
