Inflation has hit Americans hard in 2023, but so has wanderlust. In fact, rising prices weren’t enough to keep people home as 2023 saw the busiest summer travel period on record, according to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). But they have helped make this the year of “cheat” travel – destinations that look like more popular destinations, but without the huge prices.

Fraudsters are expected to dominate the travel industry well into 2024, according to Expedia’s recently released Travel Trends report . Here are some of the destinations the booking site’s experts recommend visiting next year.

The term may be (relatively) new, but deciding to go somewhere off the beaten path where there are fewer people and more accessible isn’t exactly new. However, it takes some research to find destinations that will successfully replace longtime tourist favorites, so you can use Expedia’s selections as a starting point, including:
