There Are Four Ways to Turn Off Your IPhone

The iPhone, by design, is quite easy to set up and use. But while turning on your new iPhone is almost routine, it’s unclear how to turn it off. You press and hold the power button, expecting some kind of shutdown option, but it just launches Siri. There are actually several different ways to shut down or restart your iPhone, and some don’t even require the use of hardware buttons.

How to turn off iPhone using hardware buttons

Every iPhone since the X has used this shutdown and reboot process. To turn off your iPhone, you need to press and hold the combination of the side button and one of the volume buttons (it doesn’t matter whether it’s the volume up or volume down button).

Keep these buttons pressed until you see the shutdown screen. Then release your finger and slide your finger across the Slide to Power Off slider. After a couple of seconds, your iPhone will turn off.

If you’re using an iPhone with a Home button, like the iPhone 8 or iPhone SE, all you have to do is press and hold the Side button to bring up the shutdown menu.

If your iPhone is frozen, you may not be able to bring up the shutdown screen. Luckily, there is a way to force any iPhone to shut down and restart, instantly killing all running apps and processes.

To do this, press and release the Volume Up button, then press and release the Volume Down button, and then press and hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears on the screen. (This method solves many common iPhone problems.)

There is also a way to turn off your iPhone from the Settings app if the physical buttons on your iPhone are not working. Go to Settings > General > Power Off to turn off your iPhone.

How to turn off iPhone using Siri

If you’re using iOS 15 or later, you can ask Siri (using the side button or voice command) to ” turn off my iPhone ” or ” turn off my iPhone .” Siri will ask you for confirmation. You can answer ” Yes ” or click the “Power Off” button in the Siri interface to quickly turn off your iPhone.

This is one of the commands that Apple has built into the iPhone so it does not require an Internet connection. This will work even if you are in airplane mode or don’t have a reliable internet connection.
