You Can Finally Share Your AirTag’s Location With Others

Apple AirTags have always been good at helping you keep track of your stuff, but with one major drawback: They can only be associated with one Apple ID at a time, meaning you and your spouse can’t simultaneously track the AirTag that helps you remember. for example, where you parked your car.

Well, AirTags just got a lot more useful thanks to iOS 17 . Thanks to a new update, Apple is finally allowing you to share your AirTag’s location with other people, which is great news for those of us who track shared assets like luggage or vehicles. Better yet, you can share AirTags with people outside of your Apple ID family: If a person has an Apple ID, they can be added to your AirTags.

How to Share AirTag Location with Others

To share your AirTag with someone else, first update your iPhone to iOS 17. (The same goes for anyone you want to share your AirTag with.) Then open the Find My app, go to the Items tab, and select AirTag. Click “Add Person” under “Share this AirTag.” Now click Continue on the pop-up window, then select one of your contacts with whom you want to share the AirTag. You can also enter the person’s number or email address manually. Click the + button to add more people to AirTag—you can add up to six people per device. When you’re done adding people, click Share .

These people will now receive a notification from the Find My app. They can tap the notification or go to the Find Me app, select the Items tab, and tap Add to start sharing your AirTag. If they don’t want to do this, they can click Don’t Add .

How to Stop Sharing AirTag Location

You can also stop sharing your AirTag with anyone through the Find My app. Go to the Items tab in Find My and tap the person’s name. Then double-click Stop Sharing to remove them from the AirTag.
