You Can Transfer Music Between Spotify and Apple Music

I recently wrote about the best music streaming service for different people, and it made me realize that the reason I stick with Spotify isn’t because it’s the best or I really like it. That’s because I have a playlist of 1,823 songs I’ve “liked ” over the last five years or so that I’ll never be able to recreate.

Since all the major streaming services do pretty much the same thing for about the same price, I’m sure they’re counting on retaining users by making you slightly frustrated when switching. I’m guessing that’s why they don’t build a “move this playlist to another location” feature into their apps. But there is a way around this. You’ll have to use a third-party app or website, but it’s easy and free.

Apps that transfer playlists and music from Spotify to Apple Music (as well as other services)

There are a number of apps designed to transfer your playlists, album lists, and song selections between different music services. Here are three:

There are also web options such as:

How to transfer music from one service to another

Like the music services that spawned them, these dedicated apps and websites are essentially the same. They are either free or free with the option to pay for premium features. But I doubt you’ll need them.

Whether you choose the web option or the dedicated app, you basically download the app/visit the site, then log into your Spotify, Apple Music, or whatever service you have (SongShift supports 12 music streaming streams, for example). services.) From there, you give apps permission to access your information and follow the instructions to transfer your playlists, albums, and anything else you want between music streaming apps.

These services work by accessing lyrics and metadata from playlists on one music service and recreating them on another. Once this is complete, you’ll probably want to go into your music app’s settings and remove permission from the app to transfer for security purposes.

In most cases, transferring is a painless process, but there may be errors or artists/songs that are not available in both locations. Most of these apps will tell you if something failed and/or give you the option to manually replace the songs.

There may be platform-specific listings that will not migrate if the new service does not have an equivalent. For example: Spotify plays podcasts, but Apple Music doesn’t, so you obviously won’t be able to stream podcasts between those platforms. However, you can stream podcasts between Amazon Music Unlimited and Spotify.
