Bing Chat Is More Than Just a ChatGPT Clone

Yes, the Microsoft Bing Chat sidebar in Edge works using ChatGPT, but that’s not all. While Microsoft built Bing Chat on top of the underlying ChatGPT technology, the company has also added many unique features with direct integration into web browsing. This change turns him into the co-pilot of the Internet. Take a look at all the exciting features of Bing Chat in Microsoft Edge.

Text generation in Bing Chat with ChatGPT 4

Bing Chat started out as a simple chat interface, but it has grown significantly since then. Microsoft has added a new Create tab that allows you to generate text based on an invitation packaged in an accessible interface.

Start by entering an invitation. You can choose the tone (professional, casual, funny, etc.), format (blog post or email), and duration. Click the Create Draft button when you’re done with the settings and you’ll see a preview right below. Once created, you can use Bing suggestions to improve your draft, or copy it as is.

What’s cool is that unlike the free version of ChatGPT, Bing Chat defaults to GPT-4, the latest and greatest model of the large OpenAI language. This means that you get free access to all model enhancements such as faster and clearer responses.

Summarize and communicate with web pages or documents

You may already know that you can ask an artificial intelligence bot like Bing Chat to summarize documents, articles, and other types of texts. But that’s not all. Basically, you can discuss a submitted text using Bing Chat : ask it questions about specific topics covered in the document, and Bing can answer them in detail. If you’re not satisfied with the answer, Bing will offer you two or three options for how to proceed in the form of suggestions right below. Of course, you can ask any additional question you want.

Create images without going into DALL-E

Bing Chat also integrates with another popular OpenAI product, DALL-E. All you have to do is say “Create Image…” followed by the prompt, and voila: Bing Image Creator will generate four images for you. Click on any image to open it in a new tab. From here, you can see a full-screen preview of the image and easily download it or save it to your collection.

Set the tone for answers

When you’re chatting with Bing, you’ll see three tabs at the top. By default, Microsoft will give you balanced answers, but you can change them to “More Creative” or “More Accurate” at any time.

Export any answer to Word, PDF or text file.

Here’s a reason to use Bing Chat to work: you can convert any response or text created with Bing into a Word document, PDF, or plain text file. Hover your mouse over the Bing answer and click the last Export button. From here, select your format and you’re done.

Speak in pictures

Bing Chat also supports image uploads. This works both in the mobile app and in the sidebar. You can upload any image and ask Bing questions about it to help identify unknown objects around you or solve visual problems. Microsoft promises to blur faces in images and does not use this data in its analysis.

Perform web actions from the Edge sidebar.

What’s New in Bing | edge actions

Bing Chat wants to completely replace Google (or Bing I guess). Let’s say you want to watch a movie: Bing Chat can already help you find something you might like. But now it can go even further and take you straight to the page of the streaming service hosting the movie. You no longer have to overcome seven different hurdles to figure out where to actually stream a movie from.

ChatGPT plugins coming to Bing

Microsoft announced at its Build conference that the company is using the same open plugin standard that OpenAI uses. This means that developers can create plugins for any service that supports this standard, which means not only ChatGPT and Bing, but also Dynamics 365 Copilot and Microsoft 365 Copilot. Soon, you’ll be able to integrate with apps like Zapier, Kayak, Zillow, and more for free right inside Bing Chat. (OpenAI charges $20 per month for this feature.)

You will be able to add and enable plugins from the settings menu on the sidebar itself. Once enabled, you will be able to call the plugin with a text prompt like ChatGPT .
