The Best Tools to Make Moving so Much Easier

When you move, you are always looking for ways to alleviate the painful process a little. You can learn how to pack a box perfectly , but surely there must be some way to pass some of that effort on to someone or something else? Yes: you can get tools that will make any movement much faster and smoother. Here’s what we recommend.

The best special tools for moving furniture

There are certain gadgets specially made for certain tasks. Here are some of our favorites that are meant for movement only.

  • The Multus Lifting Strap ($19.97) is simply an adjustable strap with two handles, one at each end. It’s so simple it’s silly, but this thing is great when you need to carry something heavy like a box. Place the item on top of the belt, adjust the belt to the correct size, and then lift it up by the handles.
  • TSR Home Heavy Duty Furniture Lifts ($26.99) will make moving your furniture much easier. You’re probably familiar with those little slider cushions you can put under the legs of tables and sofas, but they’re better because they have wheels . Each slider has four wheels, and in the package you get four wheels. Your furniture will slide on carpet or harder surfaces.
  • The WEPUMP Lift ($24.99) will help you lift heavy furniture high enough to even put sliders on. It can lift up to 1000 pounds so you won’t get hurt trying to put a heavy table on the slider.
  • The Dolly Double Shoulder Strap ($39.99) helps you and the other person lift really heavy things like washing machines or chests of drawers with much less effort. The strap is attached to the shoulders of each person and fits under large furniture, so you can both lift and move it right from home.
  • The PotLifter Pot Lifter ($39.97) is similar to straps with handles, but designed for round pots that other types won’t help at all. The straps are designed to fit around rather than under heavy pots, so you can move them around without tipping over. It also comes in 200 and 400 lb capacity versions so even the largest ornamental trees can be moved safely.

The best basic furniture moving tools

These specialty products are great, but you still need the basics. We recommend:

  • The Roxon 2-in-1 Pocket Knife and Scissors ($23.99) will be a must. You won’t know how much you need to cut until you’re knee-deep in ribbons, boxes, twine and who knows what else. It is foldable and equipped with two different types of cutting tools so you can cut right through it.
  • The 220-piece Fastpro Tool Kit ($69.99) is an investment you can make for a move, but reap the rewards much later. There’s a level, a variety of screwdrivers, a tape measure, a hammer, large scissors, pliers, and everything else you’ll need to sort and reassemble all of your household items. Plus, it’s all packaged in a separate case, so it’s portable and easy to find.
  • Jadens Label Maker ($36.99) prints on stickers you create on your phone, so you don’t need bulky equipment to ensure your boxes are clearly labelled. It’s a lot better than using Sharpie to mark boxes, and the ability to connect to the app makes it easy and quick to use.
  • Scotch packing tape ($14.99 for six rolls on dispensers) is the gold standard of tape and you should buy it in bulk because you’ll need more than you think.
