Disney+ and Hulu Are Going to Raise Prices, but This Can Be Avoided

Disney, which also owns the majority of Hulu, is raising prices on separate premium tiers of Disney+ and Hulu. Unfortunately, higher prices aren’t the only change: According to Mashable , Disney+ will also crack down on password sharing. But they’ve also released a discounted Disney+ and Hulu ad-free combo pack that might be cheaper than you’d pay separately.

Disney+ and Hulu are getting more expensive

Disney+ Premium, which currently costs $10.99 per month, has increased by 27% to $13.99. Hulu “premium” (no ads) went up 20% from $14.99 to $17.99. For reference, the last time Disney+ raised prices was back in December when the ad-free tier went up to $10.99 from $7.99. That’s two price spikes in less than a year.

The price of both Hulu + Live TV plans will increase by $7, to $76.99 with ads and $89.99 without ads. If you have ESPN+, you can expect your monthly fee to go up $1 to $10.99 per month.

The separate base tiers for Disney+ and Hulu (with ads) will remain the same at $7.99 per month each. If you get the basic package, you get both for $9.99 per month. All price increases are due to start on October 12th.

However, Disney+ and Hulu will be cheaper together.

The (relatively) good news is that you can save on these price increases starting September 6th. Disney will be releasing a new Disney+ and Hulu ad-free streaming package for $19.99 per month, which is a 37% discount from their respective standalone plans (but that’s the same price you’d pay for the package before the price increase).

When will Disney+ stop sharing passwords?

If you’re worried about password sharing, the Disney CEO said they’ll be exploring new ways to limit password sharing sometime in 2024. Following the success of Netflix, which boosted subscriber numbers following their ban on password sharing, other streaming services seem to be eyeing the same. However, there are ways to get around Netflix’s password sharing rules , and hopefully the same is true for other streamers as well.
