Use ChatGPT to Prepare for Your Next Job Interview

The influence of ChatGPT on our daily lives is probably exaggerated, but it does have many useful uses. Students can use it, for example, to prepare for tests . And if you’re interviewing for a job, ChatGPT can help you prepare.

Use ChatGPT to practice answering interview questions

The idea is now trending on TikTok thanks to job-seeking influencer Hanna Gefft, who shared it with the 152,000 followers of her Hanna Gets Hired account . See her explanation below:

Similarly, you can ask ChatGPT to test you for something, you can ask him to read the job description and come up with possible interview questions. Simply copy the full job description from the job listing and paste it into ChatGPT asking you to create interview questions. You can then use these questions to brainstorm what you should be ready to talk about. Then make your own cheat sheet by writing down relevant anecdotes and facts to keep in mind before the interview.

You can also ask the AI chatbot to identify keywords from a list to better understand what is important to hiring managers.

I have tried ChatGPT based interviews myself

I tried and stumbled upon a random opening for a director of development at a major university. The bot immediately gave me 15 practice questions, and while some of them simply repeated the duties listed in the job posting, some of them were useful for brainstorming. One of the questions was about how the right candidate can maintain relationships with sponsors after a big gift, instead of only focusing on relationships ahead of a one-time donation that wasn’t explicitly mentioned in the job posting.

I tried again with another directorial job, this time including not only the job description, but expectations from the candidate’s past experience. This time around, almost all 15 questions were thought provoking, based less on reformulation of responsibilities and more focused on generally getting the candidate to describe their past success in the industry. I asked an additional question about the nature of the work described in the post, and ChatGPT even explained what it means and what it entails, helping me fine-tune what I would like to say.

This process is great for brainstorming and helps you narrow down the topics you should be discussing as well as get a better idea of what the company wants from you.
