How to Increase Water Pressure in a Water Pipe

Filling the watering can or installing the sprinkler can be difficult (if not impossible) with low water pressure. While we all want to conserve water, sometimes you need a little power to get things done. However, hiring a plumber to inspect your system to find a problem can be expensive, but there are some things you can try before calling a professional if water pressure is an issue with your outdoor water supply.

First check if the hose is at fault.

The first thing to check if the pressure of the water coming out of your hose is low is the hose itself. To do this, simply turn off the faucet, unscrew the hose from the faucet, then turn it back on. If the pressure of the water coming directly from the source is normal, the hose is to blame. You may have a blockage or leak in your hose, so you can replace or repair the hose to fix the problem.

The next thing to check is any valves that are involved in your outdoor water system. In some homes, the outdoor water supply valves are located in the basement, utility closet, or garage. If this valve is not fully open, or if there are valves connected to the irrigation system or hose splitter outside, the water pressure will be low after the valve is partially open. This is easy to fix: just fully open all the valves.

If it’s time for a new garden hose, here are some of the best options to check out .

Replace washers or bushing

If none of the simplest problems is the cause, you may have damaged faucet parts or faucet handles. To fix this, turn off the water from the outside water, then check the knob that controls the spout, making sure it spins properly in both directions. If it doesn’t shut off water effectively or is difficult to open, you may have damaged washers or other parts that control the valve in the handle. You can replace the entire tube with a new one or try replacing damaged washers.

To find damaged washers, unscrew the faucet handle and look inside the valve that the handle controls to find the washer. It can be difficult to pinpoint exactly what type of washing machine you need, but most hardware stores can stock a range of plumbing washing machines for around $6.

Remove hard water buildup

If the problem with your faucet isn’t with washing machines, it could be hard water buildup. To fix this, mix some baking soda with some water to make a paste. Cover the faucet with paste and leave for 10-15 minutes. Wipe off the paste with a clean cloth and brush off any stubborn particles with a wire brush. You can also try using the paste inside the faucet by applying it with a spout brush or tube brush , then scraping it off.

When to Call a Specialist

To determine if you have a more serious problem, open the taps inside and check if the water pressure in the room is too low. In this case, the problem is either in the water supply line or in the water pressure regulator. These are both problems that you should contact a professional for, because anything that can cause problems with your water meter or your entire home’s water supply requires tools and training to fix.
