Make This Bacon Salad Now

It’s weird that adding mayonnaise to something makes it a salad. But it is so; just ask for tuna, potatoes and eggs. Whatever adjustments you need to make in your mind to accept this, do it now, because a new salad has entered the fray: bacon salad. It’s a salt and crunch lover’s dream date, and your calendar has just been released.

Bacon salad is just as easy to prepare as its counterparts. Start with a few slices of cooked bacon. Cut them into small pieces. Mix bacon pieces with mayonnaise in a small bowl and place between bread. I think the dill tart cucumber would be a great addition to this holiday of salt and fat. Pickle lovers can cut it into small pieces and mix it with a salad.

I used fully toasted bacon for a very crunchy bite, but chewy bacon heads can stick to their preferred texture. Inevitably you get a kind of pleasing contrast. I had ciabatta bread on hand, which is my favorite type of bread for most sandwiches, however I would recommend sliced soft bread and most “salad” sandwiches for this. Softer bread holds ingredients better and also reduces the risk of bacon bits and pickles falling out.

As for pickles, use whatever pickles you like, or don’t use them at all. I believe the sour taste plays an important role as it cuts through the fat and provides balance. In this case, the cucumber is the tuna salad celery; some hate it, some can’t live without it. For a sweet and sour taste, try pickled cucumbers or buttered pickles.

This recipe is enough for one clean bacon sandwich. When removing the bacon salad from the bowl, use a rubber spatula to catch any small bacon crumbs. This is all. Add fruits and vegetables if you like, but I think this is the perfect option.

Bacon Salad Sandwich

Ingredients:

  • 4 strips of cooked bacon, chopped (I used thick cuts)
  • 1 small kosher pickled dill, diced (about 2.5-inch marinade)
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • Heavy ground black pepper
  • 2 slices of bread

In a small bowl, combine the bacon pieces, diced cucumber, mayonnaise, and black pepper. Spread on a slice of bread and cover with another slice. Click on it and cut the sandwich in half. Enjoy in candlelight.
